Its interesting on a individual scale, but I doubt that archers squads could be all that good and they probably were very few except in bow-centric factions.
Now, train 300 guys to be as good as Lars Andersen, and give them a "full skirmish/no formation" attack order, and they probably would have had a lot of fun!

Catching the enemy arrow and shoot it back ... the disrespect XDD but spliting the incoming enemy arrow in two its just mind blowing.

Wow! Having done modern archery that is truly amazing! That man is skilled! Thanks for sharing that vid (showing my age by calling it a vid =o).
There is so much that we don't know about ancient history. The video was amazing. Makes me think how good they Mongols were at warfare!
yeah thats what i thought as well. shame on me i really thought the "hollywood way" was the way to go in ancient times.
also i saw a documentary about nomadic tribes nowadays still using the small bow on horseback and practising it in the old way and to be honest i was underwhelmed when i saw it "because how could a small bow like this even be dangerous to fullarmoured knights" and i always had the "hollywood picture" of awesome archers with quivers on their back and huge bows in my mind. but this video actually opened my eyes about how dangerous skilled horsearchers were.

the historical claims in the video are quiet BS though the guy is skilled indeed...its just there is a lot of false information in this. Check the history sub-forum.
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.
Yeah, I never used my quiver on the back, always had it on the hip or simply arrows stuck into the ground in front of me![]()

Untrained Levies would not be able despite any tradition to near his skill.
And yes I think just like we dont have the quiver on the back today when we shot they didnt back then either, especialy horse archers when attacking actualy rode towards you firing in a rapid paste, Maybe you carried it on back while marching.
And I wonder how many takes it took him to achieve that splitting the arrow in flight? And the setup. Probably a low powered bow. I shot recurve but some of my club mates used compound bows and with their thin arrows flying so fast you just can't see them in flight. Having said this, ancient arrows were a lot thicker and heavier than the modern thin compound arrow normally used.
That video is chock-full of absurdity. For example, just looking at his firing, I'd be surprised if his bow had more than around 15-20 lbs draw weight; historical bows were usually 100+, and that's not even scratching the surface of the problems with this video. He may be very skilled at shooting fast, but saying that this has much to do with historical archery is a little ridiculous IMO. This article is worth a read: http://geekdad.com/2015/01/danish-archer/
