Default Nowadays,....does the EU still suffer from a democratic deficit?

This question has been pondering for me some time, but does the EU suffer from an democratic deficit? This is open to a wider debate for EU stuff - so please bring your knowledge in.

    Lets consider a few proposals:

    1) There is a lack of clarity for people who don't understand much about the EU, it is a complex secretive organisation that presents its policies in a very delicate manner.

    2) The EU has too many insituitions - people won't understand them at all, for example the Council of Ministers and the Council of Europe can be mixed up.

    3) Are EU elections second rate? UKIP did go and beat the Lib Dems taking 2nd place in the European race - but has this only increased eurosceptisim within the UK?

    4) How can we say that the EU commission being elected by the EP, and being nominated by the Council, cannot be leigitiamte? As far I understand he was the candidate with the largest party and he did campaign for these issues.

And one thing I don't understand, how does the Council use the COREPER groups to effectively function as an institution?

So what do you guys think?

The OP offers insufficient basis for a discussion. Thread closed.
