    Default Empire maintenance problems

Hi I'm currently having an issue with most of my games, after I reach imperium 5-6, either with Rome or Carthage or the Arverni, I hit a point where my empire maintenance is so high that if I conquer any more my income goes down dramatically, it hits levels like 90%, and my Rome campaign is over 100. All of my agents and general that can are entirely focused on reducing it and I've researched all the techs that help with either tax rate or maintenance and I do with the bear minimum of building that produce it. I was wondering, is there something I'm missing?

I improvised a solution but its looking silly for me, I'm causing rebellions in my least paying regions so that they stop producing corruption, but that implies that my imperium can never get over 5-6 and so, no imperial reforms, this is obviously less than optimal. any other tips?

train all your generals, admirals , diplomats with max emp maintenance traits

    or, download this:

    __DeI_lowTAX.7z

is a sub-mod I made for another player (and others it seams) that reduces the empire maintenance to a more bearable level
In your case ; if you choose to use this, might need to start a new game but try it 1st with one of your (older) save games
hope it helps either the traits or the sub-mod
    D I V I D E - ET - I M P E R A

    & A PROPER EMPIRE: TERRA INCOGNITA .... A P E - T I
