Trade nodes and trade route raiding
I really liked the trade node feature in Empire, Napoleon, and Shogun 2. I also liked how trade route raiding worked. You clicked your fleet and clicked on the trade route somewhere and it attached itself to that spot. I really don't understand why these were removed in Rome 2. I'd like to see them again in Attila. They could even have land trade nodes.

Re: Trade nodes and trade route raiding
Sea trade nodes make sense as all factions have access to them, providing they have navies. Land trade nodes would profit only factions who own provinces where they are located. It is pretty immersion-breaking to see a foreign army marching across your land and occupy a trade node on the other side.
The resorces system in Rome 2 makes more sense to me. Once you own a precious material, everyone want to trade with you, making huge profit.
