    Default Timurid questions

I am still in my first campaign as Spain and have the the Mongols on the ropes. However the Timurids showed up 5-10 turns ago and have been strange. They declared war on the Mongols but have been slow to attack them. AAMOF I held back for a couple turns to give the Mongols the chance to redeploy and bleed the Timurids for me.

However one of my spies just found them and the Timurids have managed to lose both their initial city and one they conquered form the Mongols to rebels. Now they are marching west in one large 11 stack lump with about 200 units.

Now the questions do they have to pay maintenance for all those troops and will they desert if they don't? Thanks for any help.

Some might, but many Timurid units actually have 0 maintenance -- including their bodyguards, all of their elephant units, their heavy horse archers and heavy lancers, and Sabadar militias. (Incidentally, a slightly different (although overlapping) list of Mongol units also has 0 maintenance.

As stated above, the Timurids do not have to pay upkeep on most units. But even if they did, no one would desert. Units in Medieval 2 never desert unless their general abandons a Crusade or Jihad, or if a general on Crusade or Jihad doesn't make enough progress towards the destination on any given turn. Whole armies though can desert if their commander is disloyal or their king has low authority but none of those are effected by how broke the faction is.

Honestly I wouldn't be too worried with the Timurids if you're playing Vanilla seeing as how they're so glitched when it comes to attacking your castles. I'm playing as Venice now and when they attack me with a full stack, they seem to loiter around after I destroy their seige tower with my cannon towers and not actually use the battering ram.

Their elephants will hammer the walls going for my archers and may eventually even knock them down, but still they'll loiter and do nothing until I charge out when the battle limit is about to expire to ensure they don't walk away with many troops (if at all ).

But there was one exception when they attacked Kiev. They attacked me with 4 armies and I managed to take down 1 and a half of them and 2 their of generals before I suffered inevitable defeat. It could only be castles they're glitched on, I'm not sure.

However when you face them on the field...prepare to suffer heavy casualties.
