Default What's up with confederations in DEI?

I wanted to ask what happend with confederations...I play greek city states with 1.0 and cant make a confederation with Greeks, what so ever.
Have they been disabled for greek factions?

P.S. Game rocks. (Though very hard for minor states... but i like it)

As far as I know you should be able to make confederations with the greek city states? Only that some have been sorted into new cultural groups meaning that Macedon is not able to confederate as they were earlier.

Indeed, only the "real" Greek city-states can confederate (Athens, Sparta and Pergamon I think plus Knossos and Rhodos). The Greek colonies (like Syracuse, Massilia etc.) and the successor kingdoms can't join or form the Hellenic League!

The thing is that there must be a bug with sparta athens confederation. I was Sparta and even though i made Athens break their client state status with Macedon, the confederation button was not there in the diplomacy...It was only on Knossos and Pergamon.

Can anyone share some tips on ho to persuade other factions to join you? I haven't had any success getting other Thracian factions to join me as Odrissian Kingdom, Naturally I've offered to factions that really liked me and were also on the verge of destruction. I've also offered to tribes that I was about to annihilate when they sued for peace but no luck. Playing on normal, and my integrity has for the most part been steadfast.

I usually did it the same way like you described. Being much stronger than the faction you want to confederate with normally helps. But it's some time ago that I last made a confederation in one of my campaigns. Offering money will surely help but most factions want to stay independent from my experience.

They must really like you and be on the brink of destruction. Most of the time, you can confederate factions which have 1 settlement left. The more "power" they still have, the least the chance they accept to confederate with you, even if they are losing a war and loving you. But as your experience tells, sometimes even then they will refuse.

From my experience (500+ hours with this smexy mod), you can only make confederations when it makes sense.

I have used cheat engines to give myself 999999999 in denarii.

I then gave all of this to a faction in the hope that i could build a massive empire without fighting at all.

I was playing as Saba and not a single person accepted my proposal on turn 1 no matter how much money i gave them. I started a new campaign and it is going amazingly well, its really challenging, full of action and the CAI doesn't mess around !

I modded DEI's filesa little to give Saba a different color on the map.

Anyway the next turn after this screenshot, Carthage declared war on Garmantia who were allied to Meroe in Ethiopia.

Carthage had a military access treaty with me and marched 3 full stacks down towards Meroe, defeated one army and besieged the Capital region in Ethiopia.

Then i offered Meroe to join me through confederacy and they accepted

From this i can only say that the CAI will only confederate with you if their weak and on their last legs and they'll do it without you having to give them money, which is how it should be.

The same thing goes for trade, no one will give you a trade agreement if you've got nothing to sell

By the way, here's a screenshot of some elephants, i dunno why but why not XD

If you work to earn a living, why then do you work yourself to death?

Well I'll give an example from an older dei version where I was able to make get 3! fractions into my confederation and expect the first the other two are extraordinary.
Still have the savegame but it crashes when loaded

I was playing as Suebi and kinda early I was able to get the Cimbri into the confederation. Defensive Agreement & war with the same enemies. They were nearly at close to destruction.

Second were the Marcomanni which were previously annihilated by the tribes south of them. After 'resurrecting them' and a new declaration of war against them from the southern states I was able to get them into the confederation additionally I was able to GET ~10.000 gold from them. Fun Fact at the side: Due to low public order Marcomanni rebels apeared in the province took the city and was once again able to make a federation incl. getting money. (happend a few times more as well xD

The third were the Lugii. With them I were at peace from the start made NAP->Defensive and finally a military pact with gold offer. But they never wanted a confederation and expanded well to the east. Owning whole Silesia, Sarmantia and one part of Hercinya, Dacia and Pontos so a pretty decent sized fraction.
After controling france and Britannia I decided to move east through Lugii territory, after the victory over a very weak Royal Scythia the Cimmeria went aggro declared war on me and due to the agreements with the Lugii as well. With three combined armies they whipped my separated eastern forces out in just a few turns.
Even with zero looses and not such a big enemy - but now directly bordered to the Lugii - I now was able to integrate the Lugii into the confederation (think I still had to pay 20.000 or so) and so in one short turn I became the strongest fraction in the world.
    ---------------

Now in my current run I hoped for something similar as well but was never able to make it happen^^
So as conclusion there are conditions in which the AI is likely to form a confed but as you have seen with the Lugii the other faction can be 'large' as well but which factor triggered that. I don't know. Maybe the crushing defeat of a (stronger) ally directly in front of them?

A friend of mine have a similar experience with the Suebia and confederations. He was able to get every faction but the Lugii to confederate with him only a few turns after meeting them by only offering them 2k gold. Regardless of the circumstances, every single one accepted.

He tried playing as Knossos recently, and under no circumstances would anyone accept a confederation. He offered them 40k gold, offered when they were under attack by the Seleucids and had only one region left. Declared war and decimated another before offering it.

No one would accept a confederation for anything.

I'm playing a Spartan campaign and the confederate option with Athens is there. They only are not willing to join. I can understand.
