Default How do I deploy a general as governor?

I keep seeing this message pop up in-game that mentions that you can deploy your generals as governors and they will even increase in experience if you do this, but so far the only thing I found that helps a region with a general is to put the army in "patrol" stance, however this never gave me any extra experience in the general.
So pretty please, can someone explain to me how to properly deploy my general as a governor.

All you gotta do is simply put your general inside the Province capital city and he'll gain experience.

When you put him inside a city, it should be only general and his bodyguard, without other troops, that way PO hit will be small or even increased by general skills, while he will get skills as governor.

Don't ever put your general in alone. Considering how frequently other factions make random assassination attempts that always fail but always wound, if you don't keep at least one other unit in his army, it'll crumble and any Governor agent you have will be auto-killed

Place a single General unit right next to a provincial capital, activate Patrol mode, send him inside. The down side happens if the city is besieged, because you have less moral-, defense- and ammo stats. Now he is a real governor: vulnerable to both assassinations and military actions while maintaining order and improving his skills.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

For a General as a Governor is the "Capable Bureaucrat" trait available with the choice for "City Governor" (increase of tax, puplic order and culture income, +1 zeal)

Otherwise take a look into the DEI user manual and you will also read :
"Dignitaries are now Governors. Deploy them in a province and increase their skills to help improve public order, cultural conversion and many other aspects."

    I have another stupid question.

I just realized now (about 500 turns in) that the governors have a "Deploy" button to let them govern a province without having to be in an army. For the past several hundred turns, I'd been putting my governors with my armies to deal with provinces, including my capital. I've noticed several benefits to it, but have these benefits only been army-related, or does it count province-wide while in an army as well?

Also, does a governor gain experience and level up when "deployed" in a province without an army?

Yeah, they increase in level over time while governing on their own. Just deploy and that's it.

EDIT: I should add you should check sometimes that the dignitary/ gov stays deployed. I've deployed one to govern and a few turns later find he's no longer deployed. May be a bug.
