Each leader's 'Rome' has its own internal factions, and can have their own civil wars. You preferably want to keep your influence as high as possible but just below the level that has a "low risk of civil war" (it will warn you with a message when the level of risk changes, and you can see it in the faction screen). Aim for about 70%, I think. Lower influence than that has no risk of civil war, true, but you'll not get the faction-wide benefits and can even get penalties.

Yeah, meerkatology is right. The IA Roman factions are single party factions, so you should keep your influence as high as possible to avoid civil wars. Pathfinder is actually incorrect on this - you want your influence higher than 70%.

I have one question: when, playing as Rome, after you've got your first civil war and changed to empire, do you have to balance influence like a single party faction (the maximum influence possible) or like a multiple parties faction (30% aprox)?
