    Default Historical Battles

What historical battles will be in Total War Attila? My guess is that CA will pick the ones with the most historical significance or ones they haven't done in the past(Barbarian Invasion).

    My list:
-Battle of the Catalaunian Plains 451 AD(Western Rome, Visigoths and Franks vs. Huns, Ostrogoths and Gepids)
    An easy choice.

-Battle of Nedao 454 AD(Ostrogoths, Gepids vs. Huns, Alans)
King Ardaric of the Gepids, King Theodemir of the Ostrogoths and several other tribes revolted againsts the Hunnic King Ellac son of Attila.

-Battle of the Frigidus 394 AD(Eastern vs. Western Rome)
Emperor Theodosius invades the west in order to reunite the Roman Empire and defeat the usurper Eugenius.

-Battle of Cartagena 461 AD(Vandals vs. Western Rome)
Emperor Majorian gathered a large fleet and army at New Carthage in order to invade Vandal held North Africa. The Vandals set out to intercept the invasion force.

-Siege of Ravenna 490 AD(Ostrogoths vs. Scirii)
On the request of Eastern Emperor Xeno, King Theoderic of the Ostrogoths invades Italy and traps Odoacer in his capital of Ravenna.

-Battale of Samarra 363 AD(Eastern Rome vs. Sassanids)
Emperor Julian fought the Sassanid Shah Shapur II in central Mesopotamia.

    - Chalons will almost certainly be included, and will almost certainly be portrayed wrong. Also the Alans would be better than the Franks for that battle.

    - Actually the "Ostrogoths" which would more correctly be called the Amal Goths as the Ostrogoths had not yet formed, did not participate at Nedao.

    - Can't Argue with Frigidus

    - There was no Battle at Carthago Spartaria in 461, the Vandals bribed the citizens of Portus Illicitanus to burn the fleet.

    - This is actually outside the timeframe of the Game, which is set to end in 476.

Here's some I'd like to see (In Chronological Order):
    - Strausborg, 357 AD. 13,000 Romans versus about 20,000-35,000 Franks and Alemanni
    - Battle of Samarra, 363 AD. As mentioned above.
    - Adrianople, 378 AD. About 30,000 Romans against possibly around 20,000 Tervingi and Grethungi Goths (With Alan and Hun cavalry).
    - Battle of the River Frigidus, 394 AD. As mentioned above.
    - Battle of Faesulae, 406 AD. Stilicho and his Alans under Sarus defeat a coalition of Goths, Vandals, Sarmatians, Heruli, and other peoples fleeing under Radagasius.
    - Battle of Mons Colubrarius, 438 AD. Aetius and his Romans and Alans ambush the Goths on "Snake Mountain", allegedly slaying 8000 of them.
    - Battle of Vicus Helena, 445 AD. Aetius and the future emperor Majorian defeat the Franks of Chlodio by ambushing their camp.
    - Battle of the River Utus, 447 AD. Attila the Hun completely destroys two Eastern Roman field armies (around 60,000 men) near the River Utus in the Balkans, but takes heavy losses in the battle.
    - Battle of Catalaunian Plains, 451 AD. Aetius, Sangiban, and Theodoric fight Attila, Ardaric, and Valamir on a ridge in North Gaul, near the town of Chalons. The Visigoths retreat but the Alans advance in the center, ending the conflict in a draw.
    - Battle of Nedao, 454 AD. Fought near the river Nedao, this ended Hunnic domination on the middle Danube when the Gepids defeated them in battle. It was the beginning of the retreat of Hunnic power out of Dacia.
    - Battle of the River Loire, 464 AD. A joint coalition of Romans under Count Paul, Franks under Childeric, and Scirii under Odoacer serving Childeric defeat the Visigoths in battle, but turn on each other, creating a three-way battle, in which the Franks emerge victorious.
    - Battle of Deols, 472 AD. The Visigoths defeat a force of Romano-Britons sent from Aremorica under Riothamus in open battle near modern Deols.

I still think that the battle of Nedao should be in the game. Since it was the battle that broke the back of the Huns and lead to the death of Ellac king of the Huns. Also the Goths did play a part in the battle of Nedao.(Unless Jordanes got it wrong and I'm even more wrong) Gothic kings and brothers Theodemir and Valamir fought alongside Ardaric and if I'm wrong, the Gepids should be playable in the battle.

    Jordanes
"And so the bravest nations tore themselves to pieces. For then, I think, must have occurred a most remarkable spectacle, where one might see the Goths fighting with pikes, the Gepidae raging with the sword, the Rugi breaking off the spears in their own wounds, the Suavi fighting on foot, the Huns with bows, the Alani drawing up a battle-line of heavy-armed and the Heruli of light-armed warriors."

Jordanes put Goths in everything. Remember he was also writing a century after the battle, and like Chalons was adding things in for Rhetoric. Most of the tribes listed weren't actually there.

There may have been some Goths at the battle, but the Amal goths of Valamir broke free in a separate engagement against the Huns later that year.

Do anyone believe that the game will include siege battles as well?
Because the majority of the 4th cent AD battles in the east between Persian Sassanids and Romans Byzantines were siege battles!
    Thoughts?

They included the Battle of the River Utus? Wow, didn't think they would.

    No Nedao? No Cape Bon?
