Default Attacked in the rear while chasing routing units

    Please see --> http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-routing-units

I posted this question in the main forum because it isn't a DEI issue but I am currently using DEI is my fav mod. If someone has any ideas please shout out. I am fed up of seeing my units rout while chasing routing enemy units. No one is attacking them as the whole enemy army has been put to flight. But my units experience, attacked in rear, while chasing and mixing with the fleeing enemy units.

I'm not sure its possible to disable the contact detector from routed units. Which means that routed or not, atm, enemy units that comes into contact with yours can trigger a morale breakdown if they come from flank/rear.

I've never seen that happen. What mods are you using?

I doubt its from other mods, it happened to me with vanilla and DeI (as only mod activated).

It also happened to me in DeI, but is kinda rare and now I avoid to send my almost breaking units to chase routing ones.

Yes, the mechanic simply takes into the account amount of enemy troops and own morale so it might happen. Although it makes a bit sense, since 20-30 guys chasing down 200 would not end without a fight ; D

Not really. I have seen 3-4 of my cavalry units (300-500 men), with no casualties or moral issues as they were kept in reserve just watching the battle, charge into 3 or 4 enemy units routing only to watch 2 of my cavalry units route themselves. They were not far in front of the army line nor alone. This is rather annoying as it is now dangerous for my cavalry to chase routing enemy units. Great. =o/

Is there a value I can greatly increase to affect moral thereby offsetting attacked-in-rear while chasing routing units? Looking at tables there are a few values I am not certain what they do. What does, max_routing_enemies_to_consider, affect? I am trying to find something like, winning_combat_significantly, which I can use to offset this moral hit while chasing routing units.

Suggestions anyone? Apart from; don't chasing routing units. =o)

The winning_combat only provide the morale boost to units who are engaged with enemies that are fighting back. Increasing the blood_bonus effect may help, as it gives a morale boost to units who kill a certain percentage of the enemy unit (12%, 7%, and 5%).

Your cavalry should have no problem fulfilling these requirements while chasing routers, but elephants may be harder to rout as they can rack up a lot of kills quickly, which will give them the bonus.

Edit: Just kidding. I tested it in battle and the winning_combat does apply to units chasing routers.

That is odd, never had it that extreme, so far had it only once in vanilla.

Today I chased almost 1000 routers with single equites and killed 650 of them. Could you provide some screenshots next time? Because it sounds almost impossible for me.

I've only had this happen in one battle, in DeI 0.96, when one unit of my auxiliary spearmen who already took heavy casualties fled after the battle was already won, because they ran into routing enemies.

Had this happen as well, but only for units that already were very low on morale due to casualties/exhaustion. A higher morale for winning the battle decisively would be nice indeed.

Same than Maegfaer. I only had problems if I sent borderline routing units to chase down a mass of routed enemy units.

If you send units which have enough morale to sustain a "attacked in the rear" debuff flag without routing, they will deal with it and continue doing killing work.

It is already that way for winning combat, but if it will be too high, then elite units will never rout even if surrounded by lesser units (since they will still be killing enemies faster then lose own men).
