I gotta pentium D 2.8 and howdo I overclock it up to something along the lines of a 3.1 or so and is that safe? My cooling came with the case so I don't know what it is. My computer is a dell xps 400 if that helps.

Read this and look to see how it works for your processor. The steps are the same, but you need to read and go slow.

It's because you have a Dell, prebuilt computers don't allow overclocking. The most you can do is download some kind of overclocking software.

http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php#help This is where I am at but I have a pentium D 820. So what pll thing do I pick? Also a lot of the ones on that list don't show up for me
First please don't take offense....
Judging by your knowledge of the subject at hand, I'd say you should spend about a month surfing through OC forums and other sites on the web before you try to touch ANYTHING. Check out the guides that are stickied in here and use those links first.
Next, Clockgen should NEVER be used as a primary OC source, only as a last resort at gaining a max OC.
If you take the time to learn and understand what you're talking about doing, you AND your PC will be better off. I'm not saying don't do it, just be informed and knowledgable before you do.
PLEASE don't take this the wrong way. I'm just trying to help you NOT fry your system and then NEVER try it again. I want you to learn and do it right on EVERY system you'll ever have.
And until you have an adjustable BIOS...you're kinda S.O.L. Sry. But that doesn't leave you totally out...a nice fps gain for games can be made with graphics OCing....assuming you aren't running an onboard GPU.

No offence! Well, would overclocking really be that much of an improvement? I gotta geforce 7800GTX, and that should be ample. Would overclocking that really help with M2TW, especially when I have faint suspicions that my processor bottlenecking it? I'm gonna buy more RAM soon and until then, can I overclock my RAM?
What about me I got a athlon 3500 and I bought my comp from alienware. I dont think they restrict it becuase it came with this thing about overclokcing the BIOS.
Personally, for you I believe overclocking is quite unnecessary. The performance gain from your CPU will be minimal. If it is bottlenecking your GPU a slight frequency boost will not really help. It looks like you have a fairly nice system there. Im on a Pentium 4 @ 2.66Ghz, 1GB RAM & Geforce 6800XT 128mb, I play on 1280x1024 reso, high/med settings, shadows off. Im not to sure how the PDs fair with the P4s but as long as you have 1GB of RAM along with that card you should be running at the higher settings in M2TW flawlessly.
Its natural for us to try and get the most out of our system though... (Ive spent the last week trying to get my XT on GT levels, partial success)
