Icon5 Do you start modding Attila Total War if it is great?

I know there were some threads about Attila Total War but im really starting to get excited even though i was / am sceptical about that standalone expansion. Watching some videos about more features of attila like naming settlements and alot of other features that make the game better. I dont like that time period too much. Im not talking about abandoning rome 2 modding, are you even buying attila and what happens if you fall in love with its features? CA failed to bring us these features for rome 2 and im angry but it doesnt matter.

Dresden and the others, i would really like to know what you think, if you even get attila, if you are tired to even start a mod for attila? I really hope for a total conversion of attila turning into divide et impera in this roman era. (maybe in one year or so)

Totally, CA should get a partnership with DeI team, I only play Rome 2 because of this awesome mod. I wish DeI team will mod for Attila because looks promising with all the new features.

Yeah straight up, the only reason I play Rome 2 is because of this mod. Looking back I still can't believe how hard the devs really dropped the ball making this game. I'm not holding my breath for Atilla.

I can name at least one CA guy who play DeI. ^^

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

    is it jack lusted maybe?

btt: hell yes that would be great! there is a reason ill stay with Rome2 + DeI for a while before i purchase Attila. so far some features of Attila sound very promising but i think i wont enjoy the campaign and the battle balance like i do right now in DeI 1.0 (sure there are still some inbalances here and there but overall the battles are very rewarding and exciting).

Rome 2 was obviously, as seem to be the norm for CA given Empire and Shogun, the beta and revenue cow for Attila. We'll see in a year after release when it's actually patched to a playable standard, at which point I'm sure we'll see excellent BC mods for it.

Attila seems to be a nice game, but convert it into Rome II setting may be not approriate. First, there is a family tree which is totally unfit for Rome II setting. The governor system is also very off when apply into Rome II. Attila is too feature greedy, and it goes to far into detail. This creates difficulty to generalize those mechanics for a broad game like Rome II. Most Attila features gear toward an medieval centric game, not a classical era game.

I would love to see an Attila mod with a Rome II scenario / timeframe . And your arguments do not convince me. Why should a family tree not fit? Also the governor system should be adaptable.

Of course modding Attila while keeping its late empire setting makes sense, too. I doubt CA will launch an enjoyable game.

I agree, that Attila is goaling towards a medieval game. Perhaps in preparation of Medieval III.

    +1

I am looking forward to a Rome 2 conversion for Attila.

    >First, there is a family tree which is totally unfit for Rome II setting.

Complete and utter crap. I can't not even begin to imagine how you could even arrive at such a thought, let alone think you've come to a correct conclusion on it.

Not only was it already in the first Rome, but you have these things called, what was it again? Oh right. FAMILIES as Rome (Carthage as well, but the main appeal of a family tree should be for the three competing Roman families).

    > The governor system is also very off when apply into Rome II.
Yes, because Rome never had provincial governors.

    Oh wait, yeah it did.

And DeI implements governors in two senses right now as well. Actually having a system of provincial in place would be great.

    >Attila is too feature greedy, and it goes to far into detail. This creates difficulty to generalize those mechanics for a broad game like Rome II.
Rome II is severely lacking on DeItails, if anything. Those are exactly what it needs to be more fleshed out.

    >Most Attila features gear toward an medieval centric game, not a classical era game.
The base game will absolutely be medieval themed. However that doesn't mean a mod has to be medieval themed.

All that said, Dresden and I believe other DeI members said that they'll continue working on Rome II, for a number of reasons. If they do make something for Atilla (and someone said they were interested), it'll probably be a later era themed mod than Rome II is.

Im pretty sure that modding Attila is not a priority for the team as there is still alot to do with this mod and starting all over with a completely new game would just be too much.

Its the founding members of DeI that should answer this question, but I'm quite sure that even them couldnt give you a definite answer right now. Its a very big decision for them, as person with limited free time, and as modders with extended knowledge of what can/cannot be done in the limited time they have (compared to what they can do to make DeI RII better).

Even though I understand the enthusiasm of the OP, I think such a question will have a definite answer only after release and a cooling-off period. So hold your reins and wait at least a good month if not two, to know exactly what will happen.

Divide et Impera for Rome 2 is our little baby and its still not finished. We have many more interesting ideas and revamps - we do not stop modding rome 2, only because Atilla is released....

a dark ages mod taking place after the complete fall of the West Roman Empire for Atilla seems a better fit than a Rome 2 conversion maybe even a Viking Age mod finally

This period in history is my favourite out of them all, I don't have very much interest in Attila, nor did I have any in the barbarian expansion pack for RTW, the only reason I would play Attila is if somebody ported The Current era into the new game enabling us to use the new features.
That would most probably have to wait until we opened the Attila database and check on what is inside, I would imagine it will be quite similar, but who knows.

Also, it won't be possible to port Rome 2 buildings into Attila for a very simple reason - battle maps mechanics are different in both titles and file structure will be different (because of some new animations/features skeletons of units will be different too imho, we will see), just like it was with Shogun 2 and Rome 2. Campaign map is also suited more for later times, if you look at the videos you'll see that there's no Athens on the map anymore. We don't even know if there will be any of the important formations/abilities, such as pike formation. I think Rome 2 is far more suited for ancient times than Attila. That's just my opinion, personally I'm not going to even buy it.

Wow, maybe they'll add ice giants for vikings too, it would be possible to create fantasy mods then
