Ferrets was a regular on the oldest of the TWC community servers, back when we had the spawn city that everyone was allowed to build in. He dug out a big room under the town hall and made a smaller version of the world, and let people put signs down showing where their bases were.
Warning. The following text will assume some, and know little. But I shall splurt all over this webpage regardless, as I'm good at educated guesses (in my not-so-humble opinion).
This is a massive shame.
GED,
I can understand frustration with MCC never getting off the ground, especially from a monetary perspective. And if the communication issues you raise are true then I can see why you'd shut TWCMC/MCC down. But I can't believe that Hawk and others would not have contacted you had they known how to - after all, they had been working on some magic plugin for a while. And also who gives up a free server that quickly? It's no bad thing that the community still has the gusto to keep itself afloat.
As for a couple of your arguments in this thread:
1.That's some poor experimental technique. So I had him join just to see what happened. He never had any real intention of staying on the site anyways...
But the point it raises is quite true - the reluctance to, well, be nice to the new and uninitiated. The expectation that new guys/groups should be immediately prepared for Rickie* and gang to rock up over the hills and pull their trousers down on their first day at school. That they should have known it was coming and to stop crying about it and that people like that are obviously not cut out for this place. Of course, unlike school playing Minecraft on our server is not compulsory, so they buggered off. Whether this persists in more recent times I don't know. But I feel it'd be difficult to tell, as there never seemed to be any new people to try this on.
I remember my first days of TWCMC, and it was all very nice. We were getting attacked (or rather, destroyed) by one guy, but I wasn't on my own as I had tagged along with Guy and his faction**. At the time, I only vaguely knew one of them, but it was good fun. However if I was on my own or with a couple of friends and getting dicked on by the same guy, we'd have gone back to my little server. Maybe we need some server prefects to settle people in...
2.As I recall (though this may have changed recently), and recall I do:The amazing thing to me is that not once have I been asked what my intentions are for the MCC site and servers. I haven't decided yet, but I haven't even been asked. Ironic.
When we fired up MCC all those years ago, you did leave it very much in our hands and were happy for us to take it where we thought best. You had some faith in us. I think the only way you can hope to restore some of the foundations that have been freshly shaken here is to put some faith back into this community. After having read through the first half of this thread, that may of course be difficult. But it must happen. Take a look at the community forum here, and just browse down the general discussion thread. Feel the happiness at the return to the fold. It's a very different and, well, nicer feel that what I would see at MCC. There's no reason that cannot remain. Of course there will be blips, but that is all they are. I hope you can see past them.
My thoughts.
Also to jot some points/thoughts more down without written justification:
1. Cheat banning policy was too harsh - chances should have been given to first time offenders especially if they took the time to appeal - if they're willing to take the time to sign up and write some appeal then there is a fair chance they enjoyed the place.
2. Some factions just need/needed to jog right on. A dysfunctional suggestion for obvious reasons, however.
3. My God, stop claiming so much land.
4. Could someone start hosting an events server again for the weekend. Now that my water is broken once again through my posting here, I should like to play a little too. Make it Saturdays. Like, 7-9pm GMT. Those where quite fun back in the day.
*Not just, of course. In fact, I did this once... but I blame Selukon.
**Who of course I met through TWC, which is the massive advantage of being on TWC. Networking. It should have come back a while ago.

There's been only one person who was banned for cheating on MCC that appealed and was allowed on the server. If others that were banned are now playing, they do so simply because GED is the only one with MCC's server ban-list. That's not to say however we wouldn't consider appeals by them if they made them. Its fairly easy to keep an eye on said people if there's barely any of them we have to watch.
The ground-work for this was laid prior to the server start, however recent events have understandably placed this very much on the back-burner.Our staff is busy finishing up the website/wiki/etc setup atm.
We're planning for this but now that we're entirely responsible for everything we've been busy with getting the website to up speed, making a new wiki, getting mods, planning a recruitment campaign (and actually carrying it out), etc. etc.
But events are still going to come back.
I do miss those, IIRC Ditro has tried to bring this back on the current server we're all playing on. Oh, and the competitive server was awesome.4. Could someone start hosting an events server again for the weekend. Now that my water is broken once again through my posting here, I should like to play a little too. Make it Saturdays. Like, 7-9pm GMT. Those where quite fun back in the day.
Thank you for your kind words. For what it's worth, I'm glad and grateful I met all you guys here 4 years ago. And thank you GED for making it possible in the first place.Take a look at the community forum here, and just browse down the general discussion thread. Feel the happiness at the return to the fold. It's a very different and, well, nicer feel that what I would see at MCC. There's no reason that cannot remain. Of course there will be blips, but that is all they are. I hope you can see past them.

Please... I beg you... let me have a second to see my wiki again.
Minecraft for diplomatic games' lovers like me:
https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?810520-Dejure-Craft-RP-PVP-Factions-MC-Server
Reading through all this is bringing back the memories of the TWC Minecraft servers. It was a lot of fun and I hope I can play with you all again in the future.
By the way, does anyone have screenshots of the Order of Dalmaitus?
It sounds like to me there are too many people reacting rather than trying to listen and be proactive. Miscommunication is common in real life the internet can often amplify some of the things that can go wrong. It may be prudent if people back away for a bit, let things settle and then discuss rationally. The key is to not to place blame, but to come to a reasonable understanding.
The MCC site/wiki are back up if you need to grab something from it. I will leave them up until the first week of Feb or so and then it will be nuked. I have also been asked for a couple of the worlds so I will figure something out for that.
Thanks GED. We've had a lot of guys hoping they could get their hands on old lore from that wiki.
Why so drastic? Can somebody fill me in on why the most successful non-TWC gaming part of this site that ever got built is being chucked?
If you read the first page of the thread, you get a pretty good idea what happened.
My impression is that the "top down" approach caused a lot of ill feelings that boiled over. They were then some serious miscommunication issues on everyone's part. From there, every one simply overreacted.
At least, this is the impression I got reading this thread. (Anyway, the first page will give you the gist of it.... after that its a lot finger pointing and hurt feelings....
Right, and why throw the baby out with the bathwater?
GED deeply dislikes the PvPing attitude of the community, feeling it was counter-productive to keeping lots of players active on the server.
When I started the community and made the first set of rules I did it with a clear idea: everybody could do what they want, but that also meant giving people certain protection from others. That's why we had the first sort of zones - the city, which was shared and strictly peaceful territory and a unifying symbol, and the wilderness which was more free for all. And I think with some exceptions (the dildo tower) it worked and was self-policing.
Why we went from this to a philosophy of forcing people to behave a certain way is beyond me. I'm clearly missing a part of the story, but maybe it was the moment GED started thinking of it all as "his".
