Default Dearest Dresden (about libyan peltasts slave revolts)

First off (ofcourse,) thank you for your effort, it clearly has paid off... consider talking to CA about royalties.

Reason for posting: I feel that it's ridiculous to have a slave revolt full of libyan peltasts because it is just too op. Meanwhile in Rome I'm fighting swarms of mobs with 100% win chance every time. I did see a different unit representing levie skirmishers, but I only saw about 2 of them out of a stack of 20. So it was a cavalry general in karalis alongside 17 libyan peltasts and 2 levie skirmishers. the auto battle system here is broken and it forces you to fight every match even if it's just 4 units. Please replace them with mobs as well or at least those levie skirmishers. Preferably a mix of them though.

Btw, did anyone ever find out what happened to Selea?

Previously, slave revolts had hoplites and other elite units. I will look into the peltasts issue but it has to be better than having silver chevron elites right?

I will remove the peltasts next update, but I can't promise the next armies won't be all Libyan Infantry...

I almost forgot, please, do not remove peltasts from the Libyan slave roster.

It's not 'that' difficult to counter an army of peltasts, especially if you have one or two cavalry.

I prefer the new revolts!! Far more realistic.

Fighting the elite slaves was pretty challenging with my already depleted army.

You and the brilliant team Keep up up the work Dresden, magnificent so far.

What? How are revolting slaves fighting as elite solders realistic?

    I think you misunderstood me.

the older version fighting elites destroyed my campaigns. However the new version doesn't as they are weaker and more realistic as slave revolts should be.

    Sorry mate, my bad.

Though people often mix up Challenging and Realistic in video games.

    +1

I can handle a stack of peltasts. Trying to deal with a full stack of peltasts AND elite hoplites is another thing altogether early game. Trying to fight them with levy spears in an ambush was a little much. Seems much better now.

My only complain with the new slave revolts is they seem to only recruit 19 of one type of unit.

19 Illyrian farmers (or some kind of spear militia unit).
    19 Greek archers.

Oh god the 19 Greek archers vs my garrison, I thought the game would crash because of so many projectiles, but thankfully it didn't. And my one unit of garrisoned roman cavalry ended that battle with 1473 kills.

It is much nicer to not fight a bunch of elite units, now it kind of seems like a deposed noble or old general rallying a bunch of rag tag civilians to try and fight back. It's thematic.

More variety would be nice, but you can't always have your cake and eat it too so no big deal.

It would be great to see some dedicated poor quality slave units in future DeI versions. And stacks of them, all with high morale as they're incredibly desperate If this is at all possible...

I would be happy to make some slave units, but dunno how easy or difficult it is to set up a unique unit permissions group for slaves. Probably too much work just to get some different peasants in..? But I do like how each slave rebellion is made of locals, it makes sense really. Also so far I don't think we have found how to influence what the AI has when the stack appears, apart from removing most units from the list (so still things like 15 units of same mob unit mostly)

I'm OK with slave armies having 1 silver chevron. They should be fighting as hard as possible to win their freedom. They're going to be the most motivated fighters on the field.

What I don't like is when they suddenly acquire the best equipment in the game.

when fghting Carthage as Rome I must say all Lybian Peltast slave armies drove me nuts.

In a moment of both misunderstanding and "Ha Ha, not so funny when it happens to you," I realize now what the OP created the thread for.

I had almost no risk of a slave or rebel revolt after taking Corsica and Sardinia, but a Carthaginian champion instigated a slave revolt in the province. First time I'd actually seen that work, AI or player, so that's kind of neat.

    Anyways.

The army was a Carthaginian elite infantry general, 17 Libyan peltasts, and 2 Libyan javelinmen.

Now, I thought the op was complaining about Libyan javelinmen. Which while they have a high rate of fire, are easily dispatched in melee or with cavalry, or heck, even from garrison troops on the walls.

What he was actually talking about was the Libyan Peltast unit, which are significantly tougher than a lot of other peltast units. 25 melee attack, 75 melee defence, 50 armor, and 17 weapon damage make them very decent melee units as well.

17 of them at automatic silver chevron status is indeed, very tough for a garrison army to deal with.

They and Libyan infantry should not be on the slave roster. Libyan javelinmen are fine, as would be whatever the low level spear militia are for Carthage.

Just a little question, I presume you need the black sea DLC to play as Arche Bosporus?

    btw:
    1.03a Notes
    - Fixed an issue after razing that would cause the main settlement building to be inaccessible.
    - Removed Libyan Peltasts from Carthage slave rebellions.
    - Fixed some double effects on slave markets.
    - Slave markets now have a new effect that improves the sell slaves edict.
    - Fixed starting military traditions for Parthia in IA campaign. (new campaign only)
    - Fixed various unit sizes and some stat errors. Thanks to Zonac for compiling a list.
