Icon5 Am I playing too slow, or is 1.0 this slow paced?

Map below shows my current progress, I am currently at turn 185 and I am playing VH/M. To me it seems like my campaign is very slow paced, this is a good thing IMO, but I am not sure if this is only me being slow and sloppy, or does other people have a similar experience?

Looks pretty similar to my rate of expansion. Do you expand steadily, or in waves? I tend to get lots of territory at once and then stop for a while.

I go in waves, and try to choose my wars carefully. I am for example playing cornelia, this has allowed me to easily forge good relations with my eastern greek neighbours. Through a war with the sequani I came on the good side of the Lugii superpower, making them protect my northern border. So through diplomacy I have managed to protect my eastern and northern borders, the only wild cards being the Beiphi and remaining sequani, though I currently have a defencive alliance with Masilia thus strengthening my military power in gaul. This as allowed me to whole heartedly focus on conquering Iberia, though it is currently going slow. I am not going to stop unit all of Iberia is mine, I plan to take the smaller tribes first, Gallecia and Arevaci, leaving a massive conflict with the Lusitani to look forward too...

Seems about right, if not a little bit too slow.

I find myself getting bogged down in gritty wars with a similar sized faction that lasts for about 20-30 turns and then a quick rate of expansion after a decisive battle followed by more bogged down wars.

On Very Hard it will be much slower also than lower difficulties.

Damn, you sure about sending all your armies into one place?

I think you're a bit slower than the average player, but I too like to have slow-paced campaigns: gives a lot more breathing room to AI to give trouble by end game, and its not that boring to not min-max and play for the win only, especially when you like challenge above all and the difficulty is not enough.

As described earlier I have used diplomacy to secure my eastern ad northern borders, the only wild cards being Sequani and Beiphi I am fairly confident seciring my armies in the west, also not securing the west could result in loosing the war, especially when I am going to fight lusitani in the future...

This real question is how by Ned Flander's mustache has Epirus survived 185 turns.

Epirus AND Macedon AND Carthage. I've only seen 2 of those do well if I'm playing Macedon, normally all are gone or useless by 50 turns

yeah its quite the same pace as in my campaign (im at turn 148 and a bit slower than you i think). im also very very careful who to declare war to and i tried to only have one enemy at a time so i think its possible to be way faster but in my first 1.0 campaign i dont want to take the risk

the seleucids and their allies basically conquered the whole east. i think im gonna have fun (or probably not) fighting them

edit: i forgot im using the -20% movementrange submod for armies since about turn 90 so it takes a bit longer for me to conquer now than normal.

Tried historial expansion with Rome once, for the first 20 turns took two cities. Then I had the first Punic War wich a challenge as Carthage twice navally assaulted Italy wich their armie, and only when I pressed my economy to the limit to build a fleet wich I then had to rebuild did I manage to push back and take control of Sicily and Corsica et Sardinia.

So when the war ended in 246 bc, after 92 turns I had in total gained 4 settlements.

I intended to Continental to play historically and Invade hispanian Carthage in 218 bc, meanwhile I could conquer Illyria and parts of Greece a bit early.
then Ptolemaioi steamroled Carthage and i quit the campaign.
The slow paste was fun but I dont think most people would have agreed (this was pre 1.0)

I'm on the same run with my Junia campaign and it can get quite tricky passed a certain critical size ... Love it!

You tend to be a little slower then me. In my most recent campaings with the Getae, Antigonidei and Pergamon I have around 4 provinces after 100 turns.
I do have a question about the Lugii if anybody feels like answering it. How do those germanic moustache loving bastards always do good? I've never seen them being wiped or in trouble.

They got wiped in the Julii campaign I just finished. But I did make military allies with the Boii and Getae, and I paid them alot of denarii to take care of my light work. Muahahaha!

Its a good question since they start hostile with much of everyone around.

When playing as them, what I saw is that most of the time noone invades them actively despite declaring war often (and seeking peace soon after) and at worst they always keep their walled settlement (they start with 2, one walled close to other western germanic nations, and one really far away village near nomadic tribes in the east). I think it is the intricacy of the local diplomacy (between the other germanic and nomadic tribes) which tends to give them an advantage. They dont have especially good roster/economy so I think thats that.

Anyone know if there's a turn limit, since the 1.0 campaigns are a bit slower paced now?

Technichally with techs in mind the turn time should be around 600 turns, this is not a limit, but rather en estimate of how long it can take to research all techs...

Good! I'm trying for a cultural victory and that's quite a bit slower paced.
