Hey guys
Just lost a Co-op MP campaign with a buddy on Hard. I was playing as the Lusitani while he grabbed the Cantabri. Essentially my friend who was playing as the Cantabri captured 2 cities and we thought we had dominance in Spain. I on the other hand was stuck with the country I was fighting next to me the Celtici. I literally couldn't move out as the walled city next to me and the garrison size diminished any chance of winning unless reinforcements were dispatched from my friend. After my friend conquered his second state the Galleci he killed their main army and a small unit of 5 badly wounded enemies remained. We both thought they would just die out.
We turned our attention south where the Arevaci and Turdetani launched a massive attack on Carthaginian lands in Iberia and took over 3 cities. So my friend started sending his army towards me after he captured his third settlement off the Arevaci which left them homeless for a turn until they turned and took a city from the Cessetani at the east coast. Either way his army was coming west to aid me in capturing Ebora. As he moved and ended the turn we noticed that the little army left in the north was raiding his former territory. We were still not aware of what was to come.
At this time I got 16 units and a 14 unit strong garrison but can't move if I do so an army plus an enemy garrison is at my throat. So I am still. I end the turn and then all hell breaks loose. The Arevaci who captured a city of the Cessetani in the East move on to the last Cessetani city up north east. So our enemy is getting stronger. The Turdetani start amassing troops and guess what. That 5 unit Galleci army recruited 4-5 mercenary units out of the money from raiding and hit their old city at the north west corner of Iberia. We fight the battle but we end up losing due to the Garrison not being replenished enough from previous battles.
So the Galleci are back. Once that city was gone my friends (Cantabri) food situation goes to hell. His army starts starving due to the food imbalance. He is essentially 4 turns away from the Galleci city by the coastline. I tell him to go back. He is pissed as hell. He wished he destroyed that little remnant force and now pays for his little mistake. As soon as he starts moving north the armies of the Turdetani push at a turn distance from the south to attack the old Arevaci capital in the middle of Iberia. My friend blind by vengeance against the Galleci just keeps pushing north.
I take a deep breath since the situation is going to a place of imbalance and take to diplomacy. Where I think about the famous saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So I talk to Carthage and strike up a good relationship with them due to enemies. We are not allies though we just got a NAP and a trade agreement but that unlocks my field of view thanks to the trade route and I can see a full Carthaginian army coming to the south of Iberia to a Turdetani city that was taken from Carthage before.
So essentially the pressure on the Turdetani would increase from the south. Meanwhile the Cessetani beat back the Arevaci at the north east and they stabilize. So eventually we might hold off until Carthage sweeps in from Tigris south of Iberia and diverts the Turdetani armies marching for my friend due to the pressing concern of their capital being close to the far south. But the question is will we have enough time for it?
After several turns my friend gets to the Galleci but half of his army is gone. I tell him that there is no way for him to attack that city and destroy the Galleci with a force that is only %50 strong. He is blinded by vengeance and as the turn ends the Galleci march out of their city and hit him. He retreats back to his starting city and still suffers attrition due to the food problem. Meanwhile the Turdetani capture his second settlement in the middle and he is just left with a starved army and a starved garrison.
Carthage arrives capturing the city of Tingis south of Iberia but it is all but too late. The Galleci attack the last city of the Cantabri (My friend) we fight a glorious battle and win. We are praying now that the Turdetani won't march from the middle up north. But they do and we lose the battle and thus the campaign.
Hats off.
