A small suggestion on General's abilities
Hi all,
I am playing a Massilian campaign. I am at about 50 turns in and struggling with economy, only maintaining a small force of troops that are likely too high quality for my own good (I love it!). DeI 1.0 has forced me to be very careful about small aspects of the game that were usually neglected, such has client states and slavery! Another thing that became very interesting, is the attachment to my specific generals.
One of them is a Governor holding the peace in my only holdings in Spain. He has been fighting multiple Slave Uprising as well as other "Revolutionary" forces, using only the strong garrison that comes with the buildings in the town (Another great feature that finally works!). The key to winning these fights has been to retreat from the walls as soon as the enemies come too close, and avoid actual contact until I can bottleneck the much larger army into the last ''Section'' of my fort. Using only Hoplites and archers, this also means VERY long fights (No garrison cavalries in there.).
This highlighted the importance of my soldiers' stamina. I've been using the phalanx and creating a series of smaller fronts to force the enemy to engage my last fresh troops while exhausted themselves. Now my general, even though he is but a governor, has been gaining a lot of ranks due to his role in the defense of the town... And with it good abilities.
Two of them I want to discuss:
Battle Rhythm
Second Breath (I may be getting that name wrong?)
The two are very interesting on paper, as they allow you to gain an advantage on in the latter stage of a battle. My problem with them is that, with DeI's much longer battles, their short duration makes them close to irrelevant. Now don't get me wrong, I am pleased with the removal of most unit's super power abilities, but these are interesting and I believe would benefit from a buff to their duration. An hoplite phalanx against a spear unit are in for a long fight... And a stat buff for a whole 15 seconds (I do not actually remember the time) will account to more or less nothing.
I find that this is especially true in the case of Battle Rhythm, as the text describes it as a battle changer if used correctly. I'm sure this suggestion would apply to most other powers, but these are the two that raised the flag for me. With increased battle lenght, increasing the duration of special abilities would seem only logical (And it may make these ''Cancel enemy's special abilities'' powers actually useful too!).
I hope you guys find this relevant, and on a last note: Thank you for this amazing mod... DeI is every I could have asked for!
