    Default Forts ?

Has anything been confirmed in regards with fortifications.

I know that horde factions can create encampments and in the comments section on one of darrentotalwar's videos he said that attacking an encampment would start a normal land battle.

That is still in the preview build however and subject to change.

How were the forts like during this time period and do you think CA should have them in this game.

I personally would love to bring them back but with some real substance instead of the small wooden forts we have in Rome II !

    Perhaps something like this:

Forts are in game, they can be upgraded with defenses and stone walls and towers, they don't vanish after a turn if no one is garrisoned in them however they cost ALOT to maintain so the player wouldn't just spam them !

If the player doesn't spend money to keep them in good condition then they start falling into disrepair and eventually turn into ruins.

That's just my 2 cents, im sure most of you have better ideas. If so please list them here as im really interested to see what you think !

We wont be getting any real forts. Same old unrealistic camps from Rome II.

Your idea would be awesome but would prob take a lot of time for CA to design so prob not going to happen.

Yes. Romans were masters at this, yet not even a slight representation of this in the game. WTF??

No sign of permanent forts like in Rome 1 making it into Attila. Also there hasn't been any word about the fortify stance forts being better in any way.

I think I saw a quick shot of a fortified stance fort in a video... might of been an official video, the fort looked roughly the same square camp with tents and a central flag capture point. Might of been some small differences but nothing rivaling the forts of Caesar or historical forts that went from palisade to stone walls with 3 ditches around the fort.

they really need to add a mechanic like what they did with the hordes.

Your general needs to unlock a ability to build forts/encampments and then you can choice 2 ways, First is the military "Forts" Second is for travel "Encampments" and then with there own upgrades and you would have a great feature for mostly all factions.

Some fort diversity would be nice but i expect the cheap CA clone treatment, the longer you camp there the bigger and better the fort should get!!.

I don't think that the Romans used temporary fortified encampments with the same consequence as in the republic or principate in the timeframe of Attila. However small fortified permanent structures became much more important than earlier. It would be ingenious if that would be in game by the forementioned abilities. Sad that it will not.

You asked for it, CA delivers. better forts! Skip to 2.40: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yVppBlNEkQ

Whether there is more variation I don't know but it looks a lot better than Rome 2!

Better forts? not really... what is the point of a fort with an opening so wide you could drive a mountain through it?
I wish we could have proper forts back, but the AI probably still has siege trouble.

Ahhh that definitly is an improvement from Rome II but only in terms of size.

The openings are definitely way too wide and i really wanted them to come with upgrade-able defenses and stone walls.

Forts which cost alot and fall into ruin if you dont spend money repairing and maintaining them would be so amazing !

The size is far better. But it's still just some wooden palisades. It would be good if the walls were more like the "wooden walls" in Medieval II or the forts in RSII... i.e. if we were able to station troops on the walls.

Looks a little more promising than in Rome 2. But a question: will it still be a one-size-fits-all fort? Because the problem in Rome 2 was that the camp was too small for big armies... now that we have a big camp, it will be too big for small armies I hope they implemented more than one fort size version.

Btw, loving how the reviewer plays the game: selects half of his army and right-click one enemy unit at a time When I see that the first thing that comes to my mind is "is this the average TW player today? "
Overall honest review, but the amout of "Hoping its better at release" talk when playing on a test build makes me nervous when its everywhere across every videos I've seen of Attila, which is gonna be released in only one month!
I think we are in for a surprise that isnt really one for TW veterans.

the least they could do is to add a roman( or other faction) stance named fort, where you couldn't move but if someone attacked you the battlemap would be a wooden fort

i dont think CA will be adding some real forts in.

The ideal fort system (for me anyway) would to have forts which are upgradable but cost alot of money to maintain so as to stop the player creating hundreds of them. If the player then doesn't maintain the forts they end up falling into ruin and disrepair.

Now i can understand if CA can't do that however i do have to ask how hard it'd be to create a system similar to the encampment feature where you can only upgrade your fort with more towers and stronger walls and defences.

Even that would be something and i'd be happy with that
