I don't really know whether to call this a true mania or not.But is anybody here a fan of PSP(Playstation Portable)?I am planning to buy one. So,can somebody please guide me what's better, a PSP or a nintendo or some other good alternative of hand-gaming?

EDIT-And also i know nothing about such gaming devices.

    Thank you.

In my opinion the psp is better unless you're into msn and touch screens. Excellent graphics on the psp along with fairly good games make it an excellent hand help gaming machine. Anyway, there isnt much of a variety for handheld gaming. only nintendo and sony. it's either one or the either.

I love my Portable Station of Porn. j/k It's really cool, IMO. I like war-driving with it just to see who's got an open internet cnxn. The mania you speak of hasn't really hit like with ipods, but if they EVER get those infernal accessories out, THEN you'll see a mania. i.e. the USB QWERTY keyboard and web cam. PLUS if you plan on getting a PS3, there is SUPPOSED to be some cross-fuctionality. Like, the PSP being able to be used as a wireless controller, or show your inventory or maps and such on certain games.
Depending on what you want to do with it though, a video ipod might be better.
Check out Microsoft's new handheld too...the Origami. Now THAT might start a real mania.

While I dont regret buying one as the money I used would of just gone to waste else where, I dont really have much use for it. Now and again I use it for serfing the web if my desktop PC will not connect for whatever reason or if i am doing something to my PC which requires many reboots I will play music out loud on my PSP. Till Xmas though when I get GTA:VCS and Tekken DR I have no games of interest to play.

It did save me from utter boredom on a flight out to Europe last Summer though. The airline offers inflight DVDs for the 4-5 hour trip but problems limited them to the "kidz" channel.

I love my PSP, I don't use it for gaming that much anymore, just mostly for videos and music, I think the battery life is better than the iPods. I can watch 2 movies before the battery die. If you are a do-it-your-selfer you can also downgrade it to v1.5, homebrew rocks.

The DS lite is a better choice than the PSP. Graphics and films are quite irrelevent on a small screen like the PSP's.
Also, the DS has better games and is getting a version of Opera.

If you want a media device then there are many other options.

To me, PSP is better if you play a few games but also like other media content like music, MP3s, emulators and stuff - it's good for storing whatever data you want whenever you're travelling or something, whether it's games, music videos, pictures, etc. It's more convienent than going out and buying a bunch of stuff at once and having to bring it with you, but it is slightly expensive. But since I travel a lot, I haven't played my DS much since I got a PSP.

DS is better if you want to play more fun games with a bigger range and audience than PSP and it's far cheaper.

I disagree, the DS LITE is the sleekest system on the market today (in real life it looks a LOT better than anywhere else espescially the outer shell). If you put one right next to a PSP it makes the PSP look quite large and bulky (compare in real life, the PSP looks a lot better on the computer). For handheld GAMING I prefer the DS, but for media capabilities look for the PSP with a 1GB memory stick.

The DS far surpasses in games and gameplay (and will soon have an internet browser), but the PSP has media availability and better graphics, so it is up to you. Which do you value more.
