Morale problems?
So i've experienced this through most of my 120 ish turns as Rome. A lot of the time when another enemy unit is starting to waver or full on rout, MY guys nearby will immediately begin to do the same. Weirder still, when I kill the enemy general, it more often start a chain rout in my guys instead. Just now I was fighting carthage, killed the general, and then my lines started to waver and break maybe 10-20 seconds after that. >_< Also, is it just me or do Carthaginian troops have like some insane morale where even when they're surrounded and being attacked from the back they STILL wont waver for a fair bit of time?

Re: Morale problems?
it is quite possible friendly fire is at fault here, did you lose any units when this happens? Missile arcs were changed they do hit your own units when stationed behind beware of javelin fire also slingers hit your own troops more often than others theres bit less problems with archers tho

Re: Morale problems?
It's probably because your soldiers are all nervously waiting for that dude in the top left corner to say that the enemy general is dead at which point they expect the enemy to break. When the Carthaginians are all like "Oh well, he was a
anyway", your men are distraught by their indifference.
Anyway, like razorts said, it's probably due to friendly fire.

About morale switch, this seems to bizarre it cant even be true. Or like razorts and Maegfaer said it must be because of something else.
On insane morale, two things could really influence the result you are having: battle difficulty and fighting "elite" troops. I advise you to play on normal battle difficulty and to check the morale of the units you were surrounding.

Re: Morale problems?
I think friendly fire is helping that, and maybe they're elite infantry, I don't know. They're "very heavy"spear infantry a lot of the time, which I just can't seem to match with anything I have yet (Marian reforms are a ways off for me yet, being that i've had no way of expanding yet!).
I've found that rather than fight them on the field, i'm using a couple fleets to keep the Carthaginians and Egyptians away, while finally getting some breathing room. I am going to raze Carthage, goddamnit.

Re: Morale problems?
I know the problem, but from the other side as Carthage against Rome. The Roman soldiers have an insane high morale, armor and defense values. To fight against Reformed Romans is a huge pain in the ass. -_-
