My experiences as Saka Rauka

Having heard that cavalry were somewhat nerfed in 1.0 and since they've just been updated, I decided to try a campaign as Saka Rauka. So far, having fought my way into possession of most of the lands east of Media, I can say one thing: these guys rule! Their basic melee cav unit (Assa Barai) is also armed with bows (watch out though-they don't have skirmish), and their standard archers also have spears and shields.

I've just got to the position for the Indo-Saka reforms, but a civil war has just hit, taking Bactria, Oraea and Alexandria Arachosia, so I won't reform for some time now On that note, does anyone have some tips for defeating armies of elite horse archers? They're only 11 unit stacks, but my 2 best armies rebelled

Slingers are a bane of hprse archers, but foot archers with focused fire will maul them too Glad that you enjoy our work

Thanks. I think this is the most I've enjoyed a Total War campaign, possibly ever! Are there more Indian units coming in 1.1, when Bactria are updated? If so, will indo-Saka get some as well?

Lancers can also be pretty powerfull if you are good at micromanagign to box in the enemy horse archers and catch them in a trap

My biggest problem is the elites are hybrids, and better in melee than anything I've got Spatahaura Hadabara with 2 Silver chevrons

Ah yes. They are truly a B..ch to fight. But as KAM said. Slingers are the bane of horse archers.

Ok, so I got ruined of a good war by the stupid BAI. Just managed to trap them inside one of my towns, using barricades to good effect, letting my infantry catch them and grind thrm down (slowly). Screenshots to follow

If they have stats like this you are in bad position, heavy horse cav is great taking lighter ones or you can get army of only Payai Dunai they do great vs light HA and they are good in melee

Holy crap you get 59K per turn in the year 257!? Thats a lot! I thought my 10K /turn around that time was a lot^^

Its the 73 armour that's the problem, returning fire is sooo slow to kill them, and its normally tricky to catch them in combat with infantry. Luckily, the BAI is stupid, so I managed to kill most of them.

And it gets ridiculously higher with every chevron, I did try my best tho Playing with 12TpY so not that impressive, trade and slaves makes most of my income yet to reach T4 buildings it will get double that amount then

What are people's thoughts on army composition after the Indo-Saka reforms? Still almost exclusively cavalry, or a much more Hellenic style army based around hoplites?
