Armor not increasing when upgrading units through blacksmith

I've noticed that when I upgrade my units with the level 2 weapons and level 1 armor, their armor is not increasing. Also, their melee attack only goes up by a measly two points when it costs around 200 per unit to upgrade. Is this working as intended?

it is. about the armor, that depends on the unit being upgraded. light troops gets very little benefit if any from armor upgrades, same with naked barb units. try it with a heavy armored unit and you will see the difference. if the unit has 10 armor and the lvl 1 is 5%, you will not see 11 armor till lvl 2 armor I think, I am not sure, you have to check and test.

most units have very little base armor, most of it comes from shield which is not increased by armor upgrade (but is by shield upgrade)
