    Icon3 New, Separate RP for newbies

    Alright, so awhile back I stopped chatting with you guys, and I wasn't even lurking, I was just gone. Before I went off the grid though, I was involved to some extent with the Hyrule Total War RP. However, even then I never had a full grasp of everything that happened, and I didn't feel like reading massive walls of text to get up to speed, and I figure some newbies don't want to do that either, so I thought "Why not create an entirely new and separate RP for those who don't want to read up on the previous [x] story arcs?" I have a few ideas, and I would love people to help me brainstorm. If you think it's a bad idea and would be confusing for current RPers then just tell me something like that in the comments.

    Here are some short plot kickstarts I thought of:

    1. After Aghanim usurps the throne from Princess Zelda IV, not only is there a resistance from hylian soldiers, but it also creates a schism within the Sheikah Cadre. This kickstarter would involve what happens between Aghanim's usurping of the throne and Impa leading the charge against him, and probably will continue in a new direction after Aghanim is dead. Participants will have the choice between playing as Hylian or Sheikah rebel or Brainwashed Hylian or Sheikah loyalist.

    2. [AU] After learning he was being used, instead of returning to the Twilight Realm, something inside Zant snapped and he lead his army across Hyrule, killing and burning everything in his path, making an unintentional path for Ontheon. Participants can play as a Twili Soldier (any class) Hylian Soldier (any class) Gerudo Soldier (any class) or Darknut (limited to initiate, adept, or dishonored)

    That's all I have for now, but like I said, I would love brainstorming to make the above plots more complex or make new ones. Tell me your thoughts in the comments.

    How does RPing work on this forum?

    All you have to do is ask for story information from the players of the old RPG to get into it. It's really not that complicated.

    As mention in the OP, I would be met with massive walls of text that I don't want to read. The usual 1 or 2 paragraph posts that occur in the actual RP are fine, but it's the massive walls of text I'm usually met with when joining a long-standing RP that turn me away.

    This is correct, but to be fair one will have to read at least the ongoing arc to fully grasp the situation. Not everyone is willing to read 200 pages.

    I never did.

    If I can grasp the story simply by being a traditional Zelda fan, asking a few questions, and understanding the HTW mod, then I don't really see why others can't.

    Yeah sure, one can pick up points as they go. But there is always some small details missing from what the old player says. I never know Lon-Lon got two set of walls until I backread everything, for example.

    I didn't know about the walls until several posts into besieging/defending it =D

    @Newbie RP
    With regards the original post and discussion thereof, I/m not entirely sure if it's a good idea. While Aquos and Scarecrow have good points, and I do agree with an RP experience that's free from all the daunting and annoying baggage, the problems with having two concurrent RPs carrying their own slightly different scenarios / settings / lores / histories are going to be too much. Contributing to both at the same time would be troublesome (having to ask "which Agahnim am i fighting?" for example, or "which DEFCON number is Majora at over here?"). I'd not recommend a new RP without giving it some serious thought, basically...

    I'd like to suggest actually - there was mention of a GSTW prequel RP meant to be tangential to the main one and an entry point / reset feature to get away from all the Goddess-damned contunuity. Maybe someone with the notes on that scenario might be available to chip in?

    @TheLonelyPickle
    This forum's RPs are prose, diceless (and with no stats whatsoever) and narrative-led. While there is a scenario or quest built into the setup of each arc, pretty much everything that advances that quest is done as snippets of text from the perspective of various characters and GM input is normally kept to a minimum. We generally spend far more time in conversations etc than dungeon-crawling.
    Characters acting against one another are handled by describing it, and where necessary reaching consensus with the opponent's writer on the degree of success. For example, in PvP combat one writer would describe the attack, and the other RPer would describe the effect it has plus the counterattack. The emphasis is ideally on creating a good story rather than winning at things or beating down everyone else's characters.

    You sir, are a friggin' genius. I am involved in the H;TW dropbox, so I could go see if the GSTW scenario notes txt is available to Joe Shmoe, if not I could ask Neph, and if all else fails, I can go to the god forsaken wikia that has been trolled to hell and back by 4chan.

    Any GS:TW setting will need a setting that could utilise almost any faction and provide a range of potential backstories, but at the same time will need to funnel the characters into one fairly accessible story so the various adventurers can interact. Therefore I suggest:

    The player characters all end up crew (and/or part owners) of a particular New Hylian Navigator, or perhaps some other reasonably handy sailing vessel. Whether they board along with the various mooks and redshirts with the proper decorum, or they are trying to get up the gangplank before the first Town Guards catch up to them, is up to the RPer and their first post... After that what happens depends on the GM and what may be planned for the first adventure.

    The name of the ship could probably be up to the characters too.. that'd be fun to watch. What do people think?

    A GSTW RP sounds like a lot of fun.

    Alright, let's make a GS;TW RP! I'll post up the thread with Scenario and character sheet right away.

    Huzzah! Shall we therefore make this thread an OOC, or make use of the pre-existing OOC (and frequently off-topic) thread?
    -If the GSTW RP exists to bring people into the roleplay, then borrowing the old out-of-character thread will have the advantage of introducing the newer players to the old guard and preparing them somewhat for graduation.
    -On the other hand, using the old OOC may well get very confusing fast, and it might scare the all-important newcomers away as well.

    I do have a friend or two I could probably coax into joining this RP as well. I'll give them the details once the scenario and character template are available to view.

    I'd consider joining myself, but... I'm considered one of the new old hats, so I wouldn't want to interfere. :p

    Plus, if I recall, we were planning on doing a Great Sea inspired arc in our own old RP, as well. So I may simply wait for that.

    To be honest, I think the original GS:TW has long fallen through...

    It may be better to have one or two from the Old Guard around, to help out with setting the mood and with controlling various NPCs. Kind of like a pool of volunteer sub-GMs, or possibly postgrad teaching assistants for the masters class. It'd be the GM's decision of course.

    I'm pretty sure that's not the case. I think we're just pretty focused on this Majora-era stuff.
    I think Avi at one point said it may take a whole another arc to finish this "epoch" of history.

    But Great Sea is still desired by all, I think. Why would it get flushed away?

    I think it is simply on hold until we find a good opening to start another arc for it. Much like the East arc.

    @BF, Ath
    You may be right actually - that the GSTW RP is off limits until we've reached a suitable stopping point in the main arc.

    Then again, please bear in mind Arc 5 opened on the 22nd January 2014 and is still without sign of an actual ending. I fear we'll be waiting for more than a little while for the next chance to start, during which an independent GSTW RP could have started, run through and finished its first arc.
