Yeah, I think im actually one of the few that played France when CTW came out and one of the few that look forward to playing them when M2 is released... sigh.

Who another one 1 day later, be nice if they keep this rate up.
Edit: It says in the French articles they are putting the Spanish up tomorrow too. Heh
I shouldn't have to live in a world where all the good points are horrible ones.
Is he hurt? Everybody asks that. Nobody ever says, 'What a mess! I hope the doctor is not emotionally harmed by having to deal with it.'
Vive la france!
The French actually looks like a very well rounded faction from the looks of the units. The Gendarmes, Lancers and Aventuriers looks interesting.
Until now, France was the faction I was the least interested in, but I'm starting to have some doubts...
I'll still start with the Danes/Byzantines/Moors.
The french sure look to have a better selection of infantry AND calvary over the English. I don't care for the French in the game but was hoping to have something better to look forwards to when I played the English. But that's ok, Ill be playing Scotland mostly anyway.

Cavalry yes, infantry no. Longbowmen and Bilmen too? *ahem*...the English have infantry in spades.Originally Posted by Roman-Warrior

Their calvary looks bloody awesome though. Their position looks difficult which means lots of battles and lots of fun.
The French have Horse Archers???!!!
Wow they are by far the mos boring faction. Nothing but genetic knights and heavy cav. Yawn.
Why would you want to overclock a celeron? It woudl only make it suck faster...

Did you even check out the units they have available? Catholic factions are going to have the most repetitive units, however the French seem to have a good selection of melee infantry and missile troops. Obviously an even better selecton of heavy cavalry is available to them.Originally Posted by ProudNerd
Locationwise they are well positioned as well, should make for some interesting expansion early in the game. War is possible in every direction, a player will have to be careful in starting wars or alliances. I know I'm a little bit biased on the subject of the French but they seem far more interesting than other Catholic factions.

Great unit variety+best heavy knights=It time to claim England a second time.![]()
Légion étrangère : « Honneur et Fidélité »
The Normans were not true Frenchmen (a bit like saying the Bretons are, but even more so). They were Norsemen who'd adopted feudalism and other aspects of Frankish culture. They were even rivals to the King of France for long periods. It's not called NORMANdie for nothing...Originally Posted by Darsh

Still, they look like a strong faction to play with

"The Normans were not true Frenchmen"
Of course they were not. No body in France were "True Frenchmen". The Frenchmen is a very recent creation. Stop looking the past with your 21st century concepts of nations and citizenship. It didn't exists at that time. To be a true frenchmen you have to at least speak french and share and some organic nationalism. A sense of belonging and sharing the same state. But it wasn't the case until the XIXth century.

This sounds like some bad*** heavy infantry/xbowman. Although i am going to start with the English right away.Aventurier
Called upon to protect France from invading foreign powers, Aventuriers are highly skilled patriotic nobles skilled in the use of many arms including the crossbow and sword. Primarily utilised as missile troops using their crossbows, Aventuriers are so well armoured with plate and skilled with a sword that they can also be used as shock troops when called upon.![]()

You're not wrong. I'm wondering how prevalent they'll be in MP games. Multi-role units? hell yes! Maybe French armies will replace the Byzantines in popularity in this incarnation of MTW..Originally Posted by a_swiss_pikeman
