I guess I'm the odd man out, saying just plain no. Call me a party pooper, etc., but I'm not here to troll, so bear with me.
I've played all three of CA's TW games and their expansions. Great games, all, and I love the strategic + tactical format. Nobody else comes close. BUT - now that I've played RTW/BI completely to death, I just have no desire to play the same game again with prettier graphics.
No, I am not finished; don't hit reply and flame me yet.
I've been watching the development here and in the other forums for the past few months with something between rabid enthusiasm and mild curiosity. Call it quiet optimism, I don't know. I want this game to be a significant improvement over RTW in the areas that matter most to me; depth of strategy, somewhat realistic diplomacy, balanced autocalc battles for when AI factions fight each other (I almost never autocalced, except for the Spam Brigands) and for naval combat, and as important as all of the others combined, better AI performance on the battlefield.
I don't want the game right now. I really only have room in my life for one game at a time. I want a game that drags me into it and makes me want to see my enemy lain waste before me and to hear the lamentations of his women. Immersion - which Rome has completely lost for me.
I'm going to read the forums for a while, see what the veterans have to say, and make my decision later. :hmmm: If M2TW really blows Rome out of the water in terms of gameplay features, I'll rush out and get it once that becomes obvious. That's what I am hoping will happen. If it's as buggy as RTW when it was released and turns out to be the same game with a couple of improvements and a few features lost, I may still get it eventually, but in that worst case, I'll probably wait until the expansion is out.
Okay, now that I've finished, go on and call me a poopyhead.
