Any one tried Epirus on VH/N in 1.x yet?

Just started my campaign!

Wow! You start with -400~ in income! Sparta at war with you, Athens usually joins 1 or 2 turns later. Rome follows a few turns later as well and starts shipping over armies via Brundisium.
I had to disband lots of units at start (including expensive mercenary elephants) and my whole fleet! Then the Athens/Sparta spam comes! Since Athens has a walled city, it's hard to attack early too

Any one who has played this that has suggestions?

Try massilia mate. Same there, other factions. Always getting gangbanged. You simply cant field a good army before building up your economy. But since the AI can do that - you are ed on VH. Maybe playing hard factions on VH is impossible with DEI

I've managed before in 0.8x and 0.9x - right now it's a lot more harder! You can beat the first 2 armies - but the third and fourth coming almost instantaneously after won't make things better. I'm going to lose Larissa now to Sparta because I can't keep up with the AIs spamming no matter how many I kill. Diplomacy is out of question, you can barely afford to recruit stuff, let alone pay someone off! I'll keep trying though
