    Default Breaking Treaties;Relations

So I was at war with a single region faction, and I needed it to complete my province. They had no business being at war with me as I was quite a bit larger and stronger, and kept offering me huge sums of money to sign a peace treaty. Eventually, the offer was 8,000 for a peace treaty, and I could not say no. The very next turn, in an act of pure devious greed, I attacked them, destroyed their army, and then took their home province, and the region they took from me when it was undefended.

Obviously, this made me go from green "Steadfast" to red "Untrustworthy." My question is, how long will it take for me to be able to have proper diplomatic relations again? I know what I did was probably the grimiest thing you can do in this game, but I felt it necessary to fill my coffers and expand my empire.

Kind of depends, from my experience.

If they were a little one-settlement faction that nobody's really going to miss, you'll probably be in the green again in 2-3 turns. When I attacked Carthage though, it took about 8-10 turns before anyone would treat with me again.

Untrustworthy is not too bad compared to how low it can go, you should be fine soon enough as jaze said.

Another funny trigger exists; declare war on a small nation, immediately sue for peace, client state, trade agreement and money if you can, they readily accept with a high rating. You are now untrustworthy at best.

In other words, it's somehow better to slay their menfolk, enslave their women and children and raid their territory for a while before you make them your bitc... client state.
