    Default CTD while loading battle

    I'm getting a CTD every time I try to load this battle with the same error saying counter attack Edinburgh doesn't exist. I'm playing as England and defending Edinburgh against William Wallace with one supporting army of mine outside the city.

    You need to d/l and install the Real Battle AI Sub Mod fix, this is found in sub mods in stickies section

    Do I have to install this though if I already have the bugfix compilation? Because it already shows up in my SS Setup. Or do I maybe need to turn the RBAI hardcore mode on in the setup?

    UPDATE: Re-installed everything, have the bugfix comp 1.26, have the RBAI settlements fix, and started new campaign; still getting the same CTD while loading. Anything else that may fix this?

    I also have a new log and noticed that in the file that it is looking for the 2 scripts below however they are both absent from the file. Did I miss something installing? I had UAC off, installed everything outside of my program files, ran everything as administrator, and used an install guide for everything.

    A. There is an error in Melooo182's Wallace uprising; the counter attack_edinburgh is not declared. For a quick fix about this, add somewhere in campaign_script this:

    declare_counter attack_edinburgh
    Not save-game compatible.
    B. In your log, there is a 4.5 minutes gap between the last reported error and the CTD. I think the CTD might be caused by something else. Go to default.cfg; instead of

    make it so as to be

    ;level=* error
    level=* trace
    repeat the CTD and post the last 200lines of the log report

    Thanks for the script fix!

    Ok, here is the log. I should also note that sometimes I can play the battle and go through it in its entirety only for it to crash on the loading screen after the battle. I've only had crashes on the before and after loading screens and never in battle.

    You are correct about the point the crash takes place; sorry I can't see what causes the CTD.

    Additionally the CTD only happens before the battle if the game has been running a couple of hours and otherwise occurs at the end. If I do run the battle and exit in the first few minutes of the battle (automatically losing), the CTD usually won't occur.

    I tried starting a new game and recreating the situation and I'm still having the same problem. Looking through the logs I'm finding some lines like these but I'm not sure if any of them are causing the error. If it's nothing to do with any of these then I have no idea what's causing it.

    CTD in the postbattle loading screen could be something linked to traits or ancillaries triggers

    what are the armies composition?
    are they led by a "named character" or just a captain?

    The army in the first and second instance where this happened was led by a general, and in the test I just did earlier the army was led by my faction leader. The army composition I believe was similar in all cases with a couple units of Miles, a lot of Norman Serjeants, a few units of Longbows, some Fyrd Spearmen, the General, a unit of Feudal Knights, a couple units of Light Men At Arms, and a single unit of Yeoman Archers.

    How often does this happen?
    can you play some sessions and before entering/existing the battle open the console and type
    Code:
    disable_vnvs
    once the campaign map is loaded back, type that same command in the console again.

    This will toggle on/off the triggers for anything.

    if crashes still happen then the problem is something else

    The game console does not recognize the code when I enter it before exiting a battle; I can only use it when on the campaign map before the battle. The game also seems to crash if I tab out on the end battle screen but doesn't anywhere else. I also tried playing as a different faction and doing different battles and it's still crashing the same way. This is odd since this issue was never as bad before (when I had everything installed in program files on windows 7 which was apparently supposed to cause problems); it would crash like this after long periods of play and then let me finish the battle the second time. So it's something to do with any battle I do it seems I can complete the battle without the game crashing only if I can finish it within the first few minutes of the game running. I just don't get why it's before and after a battle and never in the actual battle or on the campaign map.

    How is the Titanium submod for game stability at this point? I'm thinking of trying it and seeing if there's a difference.

    I had a bit of time to do some tests of ifferent battle situations today, may do more tomorrow, here are the results.

    Test 1: Settlement battles = CTD (unless ended quickly IE 3-5 minutes)

    Test 2: Battlefield Battle
    duration: 3 minutes
    status: no CTD

    Test 3: Battlefield Battle
    duration: 15 minutes
    status: no CTD

    Test 4: Settlement Battle
    duration: 1 minute
    status: Fatal Graphics Error (normally doesn't happen)

    Test 5: Battlefield Battle
    duration: 10 minutes
    status: no CTD
    notes: Full stack armies with reinforcing army (approx. 6000 units)

    Conclusions:
    -Supporting armies don't cause the CTD
    -Battlefield battles seem to work fine (no crashes on any tests)
    -CTD pretty much guaranteed to be settlement related

    Update: I've been running more tests and it seems that the CTD is only linked to the Late Era Campaign. I switched over to the Early Era and was able to play a 30 minute siege no problem and get back to the campaign map without crashing.

    So pretty much what I've discovered is that if I play sieges in the late era campaign I will get a CTD unspecified error every single time, however if I play an early era campaign I never get an unspecified error CTD during sieges but I get fatal graphics errors way more frequently than in the late era. Thankfully in the early era campaign I can actually manage to get through sieges without them crashing literally every time though.
