Default Question about the grinding of armies.

I really like Divide et Impera.

I've been comparing DeI and Vae Victis for the last couple days now. Both are exceptionally well done. I must say as much as I like the combat mechanics in VV (which I know DeI will over-hall in the next release), I prefer the more immersive campaign. Hence I'd prefer to use DeI.

One thing I've fund though is that in DeI because units are quick and cheap to produce, the campaign becomes a grinding of opposing armies. This is a deal breaker for me, as I have a hard time appreciating the campaign features when every turn I'm slogging it out with full stack armies. Slowing down the production of armies, like in VV, would make battles and armies more meaningful.

So my question is this. Are you planning on increasing the cost or time to produce units in future releases?

VV are planning to work on their campaign in the next release, while DeI are doing the same for their combat. I am still torn between which mod as both in the next releases look like being very similar. So the grinding of armies I think will be my deciding factor.

I believe 1.0 will make armies more expensive, at least top tier troops. Levy troops will probably still be fairly cheap and quick to raise. But losing an army with elites and top professional troops will be a serious blow and will be quite expensive to rebuild.

Thanks. I just had a look at the Populous mod and it is GREAT! .Mitch has a very good concept, not just for realism but gameplay. I hope DeI will at least make it compatible (which doesn't sound hard), or include it in the mod.

We will be increasing unit costs in 1.0, especially for top tier troops. I will say that one of the ways to make the mod more difficult is to have the AI able to produce enough armies. It may be a bit much at the moment and I think unit costs will help improve that in 1.0. The populous mod will also be a huge help when that is completed and will solve many of these issues.

VV is indeed a very interesting and well made mod. I have nothing but respect for Magnar and their mod team. The one great thing about a community like TWC is that there is a place for all mods and choices for players.

    Thanks Dresden.

I don't want to have an advantage over the AI, I think it should take the same amount time and cost for the player and the AI, I just think the game could slow down a bit. A bit more time between EPIC battles.

I look forward to the next release (I hope it's before January) and I think it's a step in the right direction.

Would there be a way to have both the AI and player travel in larger army groups so that we have bigger and more decisive battles but less of them? If rather have a deciding battle every 5 turns than a number of smaller battles each turn.
