All system RAM is dynamic RAM.
The only other type of RAM (static RAM) is only used in high-speed cache (you won't have more than a few megabytes of it because it's very expensive, and it's usually located on the CPU chip itself so you can't even expand it)
I suspect the guy at the upgrading place doesn't know what's he's talking about, or he was making a laugh with you.

What you need to know is what type of dynamic RAM you have.
    Should be one of these:
    -RAMBUS
-SDRAM (stands for synchronous dynamic random access memory)
    -DDR-SDRAM (aka "DDR")
    -DDR2-SDRAM (aka "DDR2")
each come in several different speeds.

There are programs that show you what type you have.
But you can also just take your old RAM out, check what the sticker says.
You should especially not the "pc" number.
    It should look like this:
    pc333 or pc3200
The numbers following the "pc" are unique to a certain type and speed of RAM and is enough for any trained salesman to know what you need.

Thanks Erik! This is completely useful ..i will contact him tomorow..im glad its possible to add a 1GB to my 512 mb and get a fast 1.5! M2TW unlagginess here i come!

Since this is a ram topic i would ask another question, are numbers of units affected by ram, like if i have 10000 m2tw men (one of the demo custom battles have it) on screen with my 512 it lags like hell, will i get a smooth game with the same number of men with 1.5 GB?

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on what the bottleneck is.
But 512MB is very little, so I suspect it's the bottleneck in your system and increasing to 1GB will make a big difference.
Going from 1GB to 1.5 GB won't make such a big difference (if it makes a difference at all)

Also your lagginess could be your videocard. Do you know what kind you have and the model? If you need computerparts for a good price then shop newegg.com
