Since they have the Jihads as defense measures (somewhat ahistorically, a Jihad could be offensive as well as defensive) and all have map-corner positions, I think no.

It makes a challenge definatly..i would sink the navy carrying the crusaders if theyre coming through sea..if they manage to fight me on land i will crush their first crusade by starting a jihad on the city they take..then go to Rome and punish Mr.Pope for his crusade..after Rome's mine ill change it something cool (like how turks changed Constantinople to Istanbul) and yes its possible to change city names since BI came out..imagine after Romes mine i can help my fellow moors in defeating the spanish and calling an end to the reqonquista..my point is making a crusade declares a war which I will use against the Pope.

the deserts effects on heavy armor and eastern light units like horse archers and javalinmen balance the western heavy armor and technology advantage.

I think it depends on the muslim faction itself . e.g Egypt has fewer units and less powrfull units than the turks , and also they are the target of the crusades(Jerusaelm-acre etc...) So Normaly egyptians will be harder than turks. If Jihad Don't Give the faction uniqe units to recruit , then it has less benifit than crusade

yes but if the majority of your forces are pushing up toward russia and a crusade is called against you somewhere near Jeruselam then you will be introuble! making it difficult.

Theres also the possibility of giving the provincethey they are after to another faction! I never through of that before. i wonder what woudl happen then? watching them get creamed instead would be pretty amusing!

I think it doesn't make it any harder. Usually you'll still have to beat minimum of 3 full stack amies per turn, regardless of faction you're playing. Crusades are just elite armies, oh I will have such a fun time destroying them and executing all the prisoners as the Turks.. Pity you can't enslave them.

Well depends on the crusader troops I think.
If they are powerful then being muslims can be quite difficult indeed.
Of course they just counter with a jihad so I can it will be balanced in a way.

I think the eastern factions have an interesting position as they can choose not to take Jerusalem and the cities around it and not be crusaded, but then they won't be able to expand very much, if they take the holy land provinces they could become very powerful but then have to defend against crusades. makes an interesting choice =P

The sultinate of egypt rules jerusalem from start (which is historical also)..so we will be crusaded upon as egypt.

not necesarily, aslong as the majority of the population of that territory is islamic, then you can Jihad there... i want to try using ALOT of Immams (sp?) to convert London or something and then Jihad to it

    Jerusalem starts out Rebel...

And from the screen shots of Crusades that i have seen, i looks like almost all holy land and major citys in Non-Catholic factions at the beginning of the game are crusadable... i just hope that if the Moors for example capture Castile that we can crusade against them... that would be cool...
