Let's Play Roma Surrectum 2 Parthia H/M

After screwing up my Shogun 2 install I remember I still had good old Rome 1 and how convenient, I had RS2.6 installed a while ago and it's still there all set up waiting for the master derpman to come back.

So so for this Let's Play I'm mostly aiming to enjoy the game really, there's no incentive for me to efficiently kill off the ai or conquer the world like an efficient robot using the most efficient methods in game. Funny thing, I never really played RS2 except for like the first few turns as Rome and Macedon so this should be interesting.

Using the massive 160-man horse archer units is rather annoying to me, I've been toying with them on my Bithynia campaign. Might be a decent unit to throw as a backup stack and let the AI help me (the ones I have are the Scythian Medium Horse Archer, very cheap).

In the time that I get these rather unwieldy units into position it seems moving a standard slinger unit would have been easier and more effective. However, these do have a high charge rating for some reason...

It all depends, if I were to flawlessly control the horse archers which in my intentions for my playthrough; I really don't want to as things would get to stale as horse archers with cantabrian ability are good for their cost. For a Parthian army the horse archers fit in really well, I might get some pikes later if possible for the lulz haha.

If I were to do another playthrough then I would most likely go Macedon and then I would be having a slinger fetish as the slingers fit in really well with the pike factions.

Though is it possible to recruit pikemen through AoR for parthia? I can spice up late game by having pike-slinger armies.

It should be. You are likely to get them before you have access to slinger though.

Really, one nice thing is if you had heavy cavalry + horse archers (+pikes or whatever) and then just have your horse either hit the enemy horse, or shoot enemy in the back. Parthia does have excellent options on mounted units after all.

How to Parthia: reverse phalanx

Use crappy levy spears to hold bad guy phalanx, use horse archers to violate bad guy light infantry and general cavalry, use heavy cavalry to destroy held phalanx.

The real issue is pinning huge swarms of heavy Roman units or other heavy infantry, not pikemen.

Though the basic levy pikemen (or as you note, just about anything) can hold pikemen. One needs something else to hold all the XX Elite Swordsmen, YY Elite Spearmen and yes, indeed to deal with the ZZ Archers**.

**Oh, you're playing on Medium battles, then yeah I guess you can use any infantry you want. Though the pikemen will still hold just about anyone and really really hardly take any losses in this case.

Well, I've never played long enough as Parthia to confront the Romans. The best I can assume is to either be quicker in flanking the cohorts/other heavy infantry with your heavy cav or to just use more levy spears. Usually I just rapidly conquer the Seleucids and their phalanx swarms and get bored.

Just a quick update, I will upload Episode 4 tomorrow as I begin getting the hang of doing these let's plays; currently I am juggling around with two let's plays.
