Default [PREVEW] User Interface - Rome 2

This is in its very early stages of development, but I was hoping to get some feedback on the work done by Melcor thus far (with a few tweaks I've made). So far, we have two basic themes being developed. The first is a more neat Roman style that utilizes some nice high res textures. The second is more stylized and makes use of a torn paper effect for the basic tooltips in the game. We are sill too early in the process to really have cultural elements incorporated. Right now, this is just a process of developing elements that will later be pieced together to form more unique and specific UI's.

It's very nice. By the way, what's that Syracuse icon in Aitolia? Syracusian rebels?

I like the texture of the menus and buttons a lot, I think they are great, I don't like the background picture of the main menu (the white map of the provinces, I don't think it matches the eagle) and the loading screen. Also, the eagle in the main meny could be smaller or higher so that the left feather won't be covered by the side menu.

Aetolian League. Simply haven't been renamed.

Yes, we are looking for something to replace the backdrop with. Still need to find the right image. The eagle has already been downsized a bit, as well.

Appreciate the comments and feedback. This is still a very early version and the comments are very useful.

I really like it. Much better than the bland and simplistic transparent black color we have in the vanilla.

As for the background picture of the main menu, why not use the same textures you used in the faction screen (especially that red color)?

You don't think the texture re-use would conflict with the faction selection when it's pulled up? In the case of using the red one or something like that, I worry a red background would throw off the logo itself a bit given the red wreath.

It's simple but it has a nice finish, I'd say the colours need more variety as it all seems to be the same tone. Are you planning to make a unique one for each faction.

Not for the initial release I do not believe. It is planned further down the line though

Cool to see you drop in. I really like the UI you made for ME:TW based on the previews. I've shown it to some of the people working/helping on the UI here. I'd still like to implement something of a stylized UI (by which I mean, more than a simple square image, an actual design) as you did with your torn paper effect. I lack the skill at it myself.

Right now, I've made the main menu background red and I'm going to create a blue version. I think the buttons need some changing. In general, I think that's the main issue color wise - simply too much red for various things.

And M@x1mus, I appreciate the compliments.

I think this is near the final version of the main backdrop we will go with, but a lot of things can change between now and the release. I really like the design.

me too, I just think the Laurel should still be red would add a bit more colour as its a little dry right now

I've tested it with the red laurel. I don't think it really works with that theme, unfortunately. Down the road I'll post some screenshots of it when I have the time to experiment more.

In the meantime, I've added quite a few new screenshots.

Will you add more cities to greece area ?

I'd love to have a more in-depth Greece, but at this point in time no one can add more cities to the campaign map without CA releasing the tools to do so.

I do have plans for the Wrath of Sparta map, though.
