Default Catholics, Crusades and Crusader States

Is anyone else a little annoyed of how the AI deals with crusades, particularly the smaller factions and the crusader states.
I could understand nations like France and HRE sending stack after stack against the muslim factions, but when factions like Poland and Scotland send most of their army far away while at war with other factions it leaves them very weakened, specially considering that the AI some times doesn't return the army back to it homeland.
While the Crusader States can benefit more as a crusade can allow them to quickly build an army and they are usually directed a settlement near they area but sometimes they send all they're forces against a city while leaving themselves unprotected. But they can also be do idiotic thing like sending a stack to attack and excommunicated faction.

You could go into descr_regions and remove the "crusade" target on European regions. Then crusades would only be directed at the Islamic regions.
The HRE are excommunicated consistently and sooner rather than later, gets a crusade called on Frankfurt in which they get massacred by every Catholic kingdom and divided piecemeal by bordering nations. Crusades against Muslims, or Jihads against Christians on the other hand are rarely deathblows. So that's how I justify it when I make this change.
More crusades against Muslims instead of excommunicated Catholics should help the Crusader States more.
A reinforcement script for AI factions when a crusade is called, to replace their forces would be best I suppose.

I still believe that the most important issue about the crusades are the AI's fullstack armies returning and travelling 30ish turns from the middle east to their homes after a failed/successful crusade.

Or that full stack army just chilling out in one of your regions. Seriously, a Norwegian army has been hanging out just SW of Constantinople in my Byz game that's been there for over 100 turns.

That is true, also I notice that some nations that are set to "prefer naval invasions" extract their forces with navies a lot more. Could set them all to this and see what happens..

    Hopefully not a total necro-post.
I'm interested to see that the O/P says that Scotland goes on Crusade.
I'm playing SS6.4 with th the laest bug fix compilation and in over 600 turns I've not seen scotland crusade once.
Is there any reason for that (I was playing as England and so could see exactly what the scots were doing.

Use the console to send it home.

I did this for a Norwegian and Danish army (even though I was tempted to send them a bit north against the Byzantines). But the second Norwegian army I couldn't move, as the console didn't recognize "Prince Godfred" or any variation I could think of. Any ideas how to move this guy?
