Default Need help with some system specs...

I'm planning on upgrading my current pc specs to get a more powerful system(hopefully  ).

At the moment i have: -

    Intel P4 630 3.0Ghz processor
    Gigabyte GA-81915-Pro motherboard
    2 x 512MB DDR-RAM
Radeon X600Pro 256MB PCIe SVGA Graphics card

I plan to upgrade to this: -

    Intel P4 630 3.0Ghz processor
    2 x 1GB DDR2-RAM (possibly PC2-5400 667Mhz)
    Geforce 7900GS 256MB DDR3 PCI-e

What i'm not sure about is what type of motherboard i'm gonna need to get to support this and roughly how good the performance would be with M2:TW. Any help i could get on this would be really useful. Also if anything is gonna get bottlenecked, if you could point that out too it would be really helpful.

    Thanks.

You wouldn't have to get a new motherboard if you keep that old processor. Just gpu and maybe some RAM. But if you have lots of money, you could get a whole new system (mobo, cpu, RAM, gpu). Adding 7900GS with that processor might be a waste. You won't get awesome performance with that, I have pretty equal cpu and it can't handle very large armies well enough.

Currently, your graphics card is bottlenecking, so change that to play M2. To play it even better, get a whole new pc. =)

On the lines of the specs that I want to upgrade to, would you be able to suggest what kind of cpu and motherboard i should be looking for if i bought a new pc with a 7900GS graphics card, because the motherboard I have right now can't support DDR2-RAM as far as i can tell, and as you pointed out my current cpu is bottlenecking.

Your cpu isn't bottlenecking at the moment, but if you get 7900GS, it will bottleneck (In M2 particularly). It all depends on how much you are able to spend. If possible, I recommend Core 2 Duo system. And I think that someone will find "better" alternative for that 7900GS. (Ati-fans, ahoy!)
I'm no pro, so I won't give you any more advice. Someone here will surely tell you how to get best possible parts, if you tell the budget. =)

I'm guessing I could spend at most about £600 on a new pc if i got one. I'm looking to be able to play M2 as good as possible without lag on that £600 budget.

    EDIT:-

I've been searching around and i was wondering what people think about this for system specs...

    INTEL® Core 2 Duo E6400 (2 X 2.13GHz) 1066MHz FSB/2MB L2 Cache
    2048 MB CORSAIR DDR2 667MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x1GB)
    ASUS® P5LD2 SE/C: DUAL DDR2, S-ATA, x16 VGA, 3 PCI/3 PCI-E
160GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm)
    256MB GEFORCE 7900GS PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT
    INTEGRATED 6 CHANNEL (5.1) AUDIO
500W (Peak) Super Quiet Dual Rail PSU with 120mm fan
    16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (5x DVD-RAM) (40x CD-RW)
(I have an installation disk for windows already)

finally, how much do you think i could sell a desktop tower with the following for (in good old english pounds!) and what is the best way of clearing all the information and any viruses, poups etc. without having to reinstall windows etc.:-

    H01 black 400w midi tower
Intel P4 630 3.0Ghz processor, heatsink and fan
    Gigabyte GA-8I915P-Pro Motherboard
    2x 512MB PC3200 DDR-RAM
    Radeon X600Pro 256MB PCIe SVGA
All in one internal card reader
    Maxtor 160GB SATA Hard Drive
    Belkin F5D7001 PCI 125Mbps card
    BTC 16x DVD+/-RW drive
    (Probably with windows already installed)

P.S. Sorry about posting all this since you've probably seen well too many of them but i'm not the greatest person when it comes to this stuff!

Ah, now thats a better system than your P4 3GHz and X600! Although if you can afford it get an X1900XT instead.

That's a pretty good system, if you're simply looking to "play M2 without lag" I'm sure it will be more than enough!

I sorted out those specs for a new pc after looking around the forums and different websites for an hour or so to get a good idea of what I was looking for. Right now i'm interested about how much I should try selling that tower for because any money I make selling it makes a new pc more likely to be bought. Any recommendations for how much I should sell it for would be most appreciated because I have no idea what I should realistically be selling it for.
