I would stay on history maybe changing it slightly if necessary. http://www.chi-siamo.com/azienda_all...05634-1933.jpg
We can see that they wore (at least on some occasions, maybe not in battle) lorica muscolata (probably leather but maybe bronze or iron) or nothing (as you see one pretorian wears no armor and gives this more the idea they were not supposed to fight).
I think that they had a different equipment based on occasions: daily usage, parade and war (probably they wore same basic kit than other soldiers in battle). You could mix unarmoured soldiers and guys with lorica as in the basrelief.
As you see this historical reenactors have chosen not to wear any armor http://www.gsr-roma.com/eventi/newsb...pretoriani.jpg

if i made the unit with just tunic as in the pic, i could not justify giving them stats in line with the vanilla settings. A unit with only tunic a tunic as Armour, but yet stronger than units with metal amour would not make sense. I think i am just going to make the vanilla praetorian upgrade-able into the praetorian guard.
You could make 2 versions: pretorians in campaign with armor and pretorians city guards withouth (as their main role was). I remember having read about their lack of discipline (which was why Castrum pretorium was built) so I imagine them quite free to choose their equipment or add expensive items like jewels (or take off armor if they wanted to).

Leonardo, have you considered creating a some kind of praetorian archer unit?
I know that these did not really exist but it would be awesome to have them.
In my current campaign i have recruited a Praetorian Guard legion which i use as a personal legion for my emperor, all that legion is missing are some adequate archers.
May i also suggest expanding auxilia units with some kind of light auxilia like in Rome 1, a skirmisher unit with javelins and a sword.
update
The next legion will be in Either Egypt or cappadocia.
Trajan ?
I don't know who it is but have you thought of using it for generic generals?
Looks nice but that armor is horribly low textured. Hope you will improve it before release![]()
yes ! my favourite Emperor.
it has occurred to me that this new general should have his own select body guard. So before i upload this general I will have to design the Eguites singulares Augusti. which will be exclusive to this unit in custom battles. I will probably make it available as a general bodyguard for campaign. Here are some examples i came across , i have not seen the face Armour for the horse before, it may be neat to add

https://perlineamvalli.wordpress.com...sks-in-battle/ roman cavalry did not wear helms with masks in combat, but only in cavalry exibitions called Hyppica Gymnasia and only best cavalrymen. Masks reduce to much field of visions. But yes it is cool to imagine them masked (i even remember watching some history channel show talking of masked roman cavalry...), so it's your choice.

Not strictly true on the vision been restricted see these notes from this site:

In my opinion it would only be a certain few that would wear the mask, such as the bearer. Who is to know as none of us were present at this period and we rely on historical research to tel us how it was!
