    Icon5 Technical Support

Once you encountered a bug with GEMFX, you might come to this thread to seek for advice.
Each instance of a bug will be tracked here and once the solution to a problem has been found, it will be stored in this thread.
Before posting a bug, please make sure that the same bug has not been reported before and also check for solutions in the thread.
To make it easier for others to identify already reported bugs, please share it in the following format::

Application::<the application name in which the bug occured>

GEMFX Version::<the GEMFX version used for the application>

Bug Description::<shortly describe how the bug occured and its impact (e.g. crash of app)>

System Specs::<give relevant information about your system (GPU, OS (x64/x86), ...>

Log File::<post your log file (dxgi.log/d3d9.log/GEMFX.log)>

Not all bugs can be fixed right away, some may never be fixed, since there are countless of system and app combinations. Please be patient and understanding.

Edit: Got it working. Reinstalled it twice more. It's almost halving my frame rates almost though. Feels like something's making it really struggle. Gonna play about with it see what happens.

    Application:
    Rome 2

    GEMFX Version: Beta 0.26

Bug Description: Seems to load up OK as game looks different just can't change any configs.

Specs: Windows 7 64 Ultimate. Fully updated
R9 280x plus latest AMD beta drivers
    8350FX@4.5
    8GB DDR3 1866
1440X900 res all settings extreme if that matters

Not sure where to get log file? Also just installed .Net Framework and C+++ thing yesterday

To save a configuration you have to click "save configuration" in the configurator. It will then try to overwrite the current configuration found @ "/GEMFX/Presets/current/GEMFX_settings.cfg". You may want to start the configurator as admin and make sure that there is a "GEMFX_settings.cfg" found @ "/GEMFX/Presets/current/" relative from the configurator path.

To improve frame rate, reduce the AA setting in the configurator. Also note that higher resolutions will automatically decrease the performance. It might also help to limit your frame rate since GEMFX is applied to each single frame. This would ultimately increase performance.

EDIT: OK thank alot. The issue sorted now. It wasn't the AA it was having too many effects on. I just stuck to the more basic stuff and it runs nicely.Since your updates though I've found having your default settings on is good performance wise now but. Keep up the good work!

Did you run the game without the UI-By-Pass option of the configurator?
    I did not use UI-By-Pass.
Do you run any other overlay program such as fraps?
I was using Team Viewer to help my friend.
Also make sure to clean install the latest .Net Framework and Visual C++ 2013 vcredists for x64 (64bit) AND also for x86 (32bit).

    Done.

Does it still not work with the version 1.0.1? Can you please post your operating system (eg Win7 x64)?

    Application::Rome II Total War

    GEMFX Version:: GEMFX 1.0.4.1

Bug Description::the game crashes when starting with bypass UI but I can play with compatible mode.

System Specs:: Windows 8.1 64 Bits, Graphic card: GTX 650, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia drivers: 344.75

Now the mod works with compatibility mode. If I choose bypass UI it generates this file (it crashes on intro menu) AA in game enabled in previous version it crashed before.
At least now i can play with compatible mode. Thanks!

With 1.0.3 I can play with compatible mode and I can't play with By-Pass UI (AA in game on) I have the update KB3000850

Does it work without the preset (with default preset)? Can you upload that custom preset here?

It works if I run Installer and don't change anything. If i try to replace GEMFX_settings.cfg, the game crashes. I have tryed yours and Hoplitus' (at User Presets), and another one. Same result: all crashes.

What if you change something in the configurator, save it and start the game? Check if the number of lines are the same for the standard GEMFX_settings.cfg and the presets. If not they are not compatible with your version of GEMFX.

I can change anything but By-Pass UI; If I tick it, game crashes. Yes, I have in-game AA enabled. Could be something in my NVIDIA settings? Ah: I can't open GEM menu in-game (/ or ? key).

Can you please add your GEMFX.log for when you run the game with ByPass UI and without?
I guess both presets have that feature activated, thats why your game crashes.
Note that it is the / od ? key on the english keyboard layout (button left of your right shift)

Looks the same for me, except for the last line. About the key: yes, this one. Can I change it? How?

You cannot change it in this version. By the way, did GEMFX work for you in v1.0? I wonder if there are new issues with Windows 8.0 ... You did not check 64bit application right?

Always 64bit Application unticked. When I figured out that I need Visual C++ x86 in my Win8 x64 to put GEM to work, it was already v1.0.1.

Please try the new GEMFXv1.0.2 update with compatibility mode activated in the configurator.

I need to run a debug session with a Win8.0 user.
Confirmed - Finally I got upgraded to 8.1 (reason to stay on 8.0 was no more actual to me) - on Win 8.1 (same machine) now By-Pass UI works with no problem... So I will not help to find bug on 8.0 ..maybe its related to +Net and C++ updates included in 8.1 Service Pack and not present separetly?

I don't know is this GEM fault or my software. I'm using win7 64bit, GPU: AMD with latest drivers, and the problem is:
I'm using now this new GEM with sliders and I can't change in game options for shader from 3 to 5. Before I've had changed GEM (I'm using GEM almost from beginning) to new one I was able to play with shader 5, but only after changing values in preferences.script. Now this shader value is always set to 0, even changing it to 3 (which is shader 5) and saving it don't help. After the game starts it always reset to 0 (shader 3).
I don't know now, is it the new GEM or my software? My graphic card support SM5.

EDIT: I think this is new GEM fault. If I thick 64-bit application in GEMs configurator the game start with shader 5 but without GEM enabled.

It works perfectly with GEM v.6.1 for win8 and without GEMFX. It happens with GEMFX 1.0.4.1 or 1.0.5 (by pass ui used, God rays, Anamorphic flares, LensFlares).
I have a suspicion that it runs out of VRAM.

This seems to be an issue with memory due to the textures loaded for each transition between BM and CM. I will look into it.

    Default Re: Technical Support

Using GEMFX 1.06 für Rome II my system Win7 x64 GTX 970 Intel i4570 8GB DDR3. GemFX doesnt work for me. No matter which configuration. It always looks same. Even Sepia at full scale shows no effect. So it does not work for me.

I suppose there is no GEMFX.log file? Is there any difference when deleting the d3d9.dll from the GEMFX installation? Have you installed all latest Windows Updates?
