Oh, $300 wont get you anything worth getting if you want to play games, save up for a few months and the current mid end DX9 cards will be really cheap, or you might even get a low end DX10 card, although this is unlikely.

Both ram and memory? Do you mean one of those to be a GPU? Or do you mean Hard drive?

300$ you say? Ok let's see then...

Motherboard (aprox. 50$): ASRock 775Dual-VSTA - Nice motherboard for those on a low budget, it supports both AGP and PCI-Express as well as DDR 1 and 2!
If you don't want to do a full upgrade you can buy this and do several small upgrades on different occasions. (I'm assuming your CPU is a Pentium IV, let me know if it's not!)

RAM (aprox. 100$): Kingston DDR2 1GB - Not sure how much RAM you need but Kingston provides you with acceptable performance at a reasonable price, a great bang-for-the-buck deal in my eyes.

If by memory you meant GPU...

    GPU (aprox. 150$):
XFX Geforce 7600GT 256MB PCI-Express - Once again, very nice performance for a very nice price...

If by memory you meant HDD...

HDD (aprox. 150$): HITACHI Deskstar T7K500 400GB - A friend of mine bought this one the other day and it's pretty damn good from what I could see, and besides, with 400GB you won't be having any space problems in the near future.

If by memory you meant CPU...

CPU (aprox. 150$): Intel Pentium D 930 Presler 3.0GHz - Not the best processor out there, that's for sure, but it's still a very solid upgrade for people on a low budget, especially those who have have old single-core CPUs.

That's all I can think of for now, it should be more than enough to give you a nice start in building a decent PC. Hope it helped!

Heh. Im soon to get a Geforce 7600GS, a nice card for someone on a tight budget like me. There I was happy that I was going to enter the latest generation of video cards, even if it isn't the greatest. Now I learn that only next week the card im getting in 2 months time will be completely obsolete.

Edit: Why has my post been moved from another topic to here?

you should get the 7600gt I posted a topic about this and he GT is faster and apparently the GS had a bad run of cards and they kept crashing or being incompatible. Spend the few extra dollars and get a GT

Actually, if you cant afford the E6300, get a skt 939 Athlon 3800 and and skt 939 mobo, they are dirt cheap now and due to the fact that you dont need DDR2 RAM, you will save even more as DDR RAM is also dirt cheap now.

For like 10 or 15$ more you can get 1GB of DDR2 instead of DDR1 (at least in the shops I usually buy from). That's why I suggest you pick the first, it's all a matter of quality and price and no one can deny that DDR2 is the way into the future.

Shaun mentioned the E6300 though, and I must agree that it's a lovely CPU, and it only costs like 50$ more than the Pentium D 3.0.
So if you can save up a bit more and maybe raise your budget from 300$ to 350 or even 400$ you should definitely buy a Core 2 Duo CPU, it would fit nicely in your new motherboard too.

I wouldnt advise getting a pentium for a gaming system though, I you can afford it get the E6300, if you cant get the 3800 X2 skt 939.
If you go skt 939 you will be using DDR RAM instead of the newer DDR2 RAM, this is no big problem as DDR RAM is cheaper and usually has lower latencies, good DDR2 RAM is a lot more expensive.

You probably should go with a newer AM2 mobo. your just locking yourself into an obsolete upgrade path.

Yes, ebay is quite cheap. Specially from those online stores they have there. But Newegg I find is usually has less of a hassle, often much less of a hassle.

I learned NOT to buy computer hardware from eBay, especially when you plan to overclock the crap out of it.

Most of the items from eBay is more expensive than its online store counterparts after you add the ridiculous shipping. Sometimes if you are really lucky you can find a good deal or two.

Can you explain to me why you continusly garbage ebay? its the SAME PARTS! They are NEW! It's just cheaper. I dont know if you just dont like it because you think its cheap or what. Go ahead and buy exact same products off newegg and pay extra for their techy reptation. Meanwhile ill be buying the same parts with the same overclcok potental from ebay for cheaper. I don't see how its a hassle I havent had a single problem maybe because i always buy locally from Australian sellers. Deliveries are always very fast and the parts are always perfectly functional.

OP this is the board i have its pretty cheap.
