    Default units recruited from? value

    Hi, I can't seem to find the answer to this even in the very detailed description written up in the txt file about each value.

    Question is, where/what value shows where a unit is recruited from? Reason, playing with the TO and only having 2 units for the first ~300yrs that can recruit from town/city is rather boring; I want to change the value so I can recruit some more units from towns.

    I'll post below all of the values, please show me if and what needs to be altered to do this, thank you, Rot:

    ohhh no, that file makes my head hurt already. Thanks I'll try to figure it out.

    At first glance though it appears like I wouldn't be able to just make one unit available in town/city because they are attached to building types (?); I'd have to add the building they are recruited from?

    yeah you add the unit type to the building in the EDB

    And yes the file is quite dense and gets some time getting used to it, but if you know the unit type name and want to know from which building is available use the search funtion (CTRL+F) locate the unit and scroll up to see which building tree is it.

    when I used the cntrl+F feature in the buildings file and located areas for Zweihander, I added teutonic_order after hre in all areas where ownership showed hre. This caused the game to not load up afterward, going and changing it back and now game loads fine. I'm doing something wrong with the export_descr_buildings.txt file that I'd imagine pertains to a bulding that hre has but TO does not. I thought the TO had castle barracks & armoury (where the hre recruits Zweihndrs from). Any thoughts, am I completely missing something else?

    probably you mistyped the faction name some where, forgot a comma or something like that.

    use a program like this one: http://winmerge.org/
    to compare your modified file with SS6.4 original's

    It will mark the lines with differences making it easier to edit, it can also be configured to make a backups automatically after saving your modified file.

    Don't you also have to change battle_models.DB?

    ^That, less you don't mind the silver surfers
    also will have to copy zweihander icon and portrait from hre to teutonic_order folders at:
    .../data/ui/unit_info/
    .../data/ui/units/

    and the EDU needs to be edited too making the unit in question available to the faction you want.
    IIRC faction ownership in the EDB requires a match in the EDU*, this could be the cause of the game not loading.


    *although a unit can be owned by a faction in the EDU while not in the EDB.

    Yes that sounds like it was the cause of the game not loading.

    I wouldn't have known what silver surfers were until I decided to try this one unit at a time... So I gave the TO light swordsmen in the EDU/EDB files, semi-transparent ghosts lol. So it's the portrait part that needs to go into TO folders /ui/unit_info/ & ui/units/ to make them appear normal or is it the battle_models.DB? I don't think I've ever looked in that folder.

    battle_models.modeldb edit is for assigning the textures per faction so the unit doesn't show as silver surfers in battle, as well as animations and other stuff you don't wanna mess with, at least yet
    search for a tutorial for editing that file here in TWC

    the .tga images in ui/units and unit_info are for the UI icon and portrait used both in campaign map and battle, if you don't edit those they will use default RTW peasants images.

    ok, i've tried to fix the silver surfing light swordsmen using this tutorial: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...unit-into-game

    I copied the papal_states text (12 characters) and added 2 for TO since it's 14 characters.

    Fingers crossed. If it works I think I've got it and will be able to do this with any unit I'd like to. I was thinking since I always take Visby, Gotland Footmen should be TO too.

    Yeah i guess the teutonic_order_Dismounted_Feudal_Knights_sprite.spr doesnt exist, you could use some hre swordmen sprites for that, or even dismounted ritterbruders/halbruders sprites.

    I tried using sword_brethren; still not working: get unspecified error on boot. Obviously I'm missing something, prolly simple, I guess I can try with halbbruders and see if I get same result.

    I don't know if this would have any bearing on the matter, when I install SS6.4 I never get 6.4 folders, they are 6.3 and that is where I modify everything; oddly enough I get 6.4 launch icon and upon startup it loads as 6.4; just no 6.4 folders...

    Did you update the faction textures count line?

    I did something similar for Titanium, TO being able to recruit light MaA

    Thanks a bunch Melooo. That worked. One of the things I had wrong the the count of factions owning the unit; so when I added TO I forgot to change 11 to 12.

    Now if I can figure out how to get the Lt.MaA recruited out of town/city...

    you just have to add them to the correspondent building tree, IIRC just above the castle barrack tree is the cities one...search for "spear militia" or "crossbow militia" and you'll find it right away

    Yes, the "barracks" tree, use ctrl+F and search for "building barracks", that set of buildings.
