Hello all. First off I'd like to start out by saying what I'm sure everyone here would say, this mod is going to be excellent if it continues the way it has. I'm having a ton of fun playing as the Reunited Kingdom right now. I've had my scares, of course. Harad's been pushing at my heels, although so far I've managed to keep Ruhn at bay.
I recently was able to build up a Navy powerful enough to stop the onslaught of the Corsairs, but the speed at which Harad is producing their footmen simply astounds me! I had a battle early this morning where I thanked my lucky stars that I recruited the Men-At-Arms of Dol Amroth! Together with 2 Men-At-Arms of Dol Amroth, 3 King's Spearmen, 1 Guardians of the Citadel, and 2 Gondorian Swordsmen, I successfully fought a defensive uphill battle Against one unit of Scarlet Shield cavalry and 18 units of Footmen. My men were able to slice and dice their way uphill through more than 1000 footmen while taking minimal casualties. While my units of G. Swords, King's Spears, and Guardians held the footmen at bay, the Men-At-Arms of Dol Amroth's bravery seemed to know no bounds as they charged uphill into bristling walls of spears, cleaving pathways upon pathways for my other troops as they followed behind. I believe, out of the 1100 some odd troops my men faced, each Dol Amrothian division of Men-At-Arms had close to 300 kills. By the end of the wall of Footmen my boys had charged uphill enough to have a downhill fight against the Scarlet shields, which they routed but, understandably, exausted and on foot, could not chase.
I will never fear an enemy army again while I have Dol Amrothians under my command. So far I have not had the time to train Knights, the 4 turns necessary are too crucial right now when I'm on the defensive to the south every turn.
Some other incredible short moments from my campaign-
2 Units of Mumakill and 4 Umbar Guard attack one of my armies of just 2 Gondorian Swordsmen. Using what men I could scrape together from the surrounding areas (2 Gondorian swordsmen + 5 Longbows + 2 Merc. Ithilien Archers I had recruited in a previous turn) My archers let loose volley after volley onto the Mumakill. I, very luckily, managed to kill the gigantic Oliphaunts before they reached my lines. The archers then let loose on the Umbars, who didn't fare too well.
I've had my disappointments too, but they were by all means spectacular. A Harad Assault on one of my coastal towns left me with only 5 units of roughly 40 King's spearmen each. The next turn they sent a whopping number of troops against me. My spearmen managed to knock out a significan portion of their army, but in the end all perished. They never routed.
This is one of the best mods I've ever played for R:TW BI, let along R:TW. Only once before have I been able to experience, in a game like this, a "Battle of Thermopylae"-like scenario like that. It was in the unmodded R:TW, and my Hastatii fought bravely, but in the end were closed in and butchered on all 4 sides by Macedonian phalanxes. It was horrifying and gruesome to watch, but I was proud of the fight my men put up. Thank you Fourth Age: TW team for creating such an immersive enviornment! I salute you!![]()
Thank you Boosh
Sounds like you had a lot of fun in your campaign! It makes me very happy that you have so much fun with our mod.
I've also had some epic battles.
My King's Royal Army was attacked by 3 full stack harad armies. But by the bravery of my spearmen and Guards of the Citadel, I held them at bay and broke them at last! I love the epic moments![]()
Well i yesterday evening i started a game with the Reunited Kingdom i played till 3 AM...
And it was one of the best expiernce i had and it had some nasy Suprises to
Little story could not resist
I started out just normal building some traders watching my enemies grow while i was making my first real Army under the Command of Amandil Prince and Second heir to the throne. And then it happend the Chiefdom of Rhun attacked me, my garrison's was small there i had to march my 1st Army to Seragon and there my first battle was fought a little easy because my army was more advanced I beated the first army then..Something bad had happend
It happend in 233 a dark year in the history of the Reunited Kingdom..A Hadrian Army counting 3,000 man landed near Linhir the place where the First heir to the Throne Cemandur was staying the king fearing for the death of his son marched a army of 1,400 man to Linhir hoping to relieve it..But the trip was to much for the the old and rusty body he died Peacefully just before the Battle for Linhir.
Amandil earned his stripes against Rhun and when he heard about the siege of Linhir he left his son Ornendil in charge of a small portion of his 1st Army he then marched to Linhir hoping to relieve it in Time. But when the 1,400 man arrived Cemendur tried a sally.. But he was outnumberd and his reinforcement came late.. Cemendur was trapped when a couple of Hardrian Horseman attacked his bodyguard he died.
And the people of Linhir where slaughterd and the hands of the Hadrian..The 1,400 man also died..The 1,400 who where carrying the stuff of the king but the Hadrian plunder was not yet finished they left a small Garrison of 400 man and the stuff of Aldrion Former King of the Reunited kingdom to Amandil was at the moment near Linhir and saw that it had fallen but he did not know about the death of his Father and brother he also did not know that he was the King (I did not know that he became king i thought it would go to the son of Cemendur i noticed it when i was carrying Silvercrown and stuff) He attacked Linhir with 400 man and took in fairly quickly the Hadrian army at the moment was plundering village's and blocking the Port of Palantir.
Amandil then found his Father's sword, crown and the deformed body of his brother.. And then he took up his father sword (- Sound familiar) and crown and well all the stuff and marched a 400 strong army to the Hadrian Army. Also at the time a adopted son Valacar of North Ithilien marched to the Hadrian army with 1,700 man..To link up with Amandil and then beating the Hadrian army to pulp..it worked and the when the Hadrian commander heard about this army orded a attack..And so the attacked and where soundly beatin by Amandil that after this battle was named Amandil the Brave.
His son at the moment was fighting a losing battle near Seregon he could not beat the army besieging it and the city was doomned but then a Loyalist revolt in Lon Nurnen a rebellion accured Allmost 2,000 Gondarian hillman took over the city. Orneldil then linked up with this army and marched to Seregon to found out that he was to late..And that the army of the Easterlings had marched to Műlman.
Amandil at the moment declared that he will destroy this Hadrian Aggressors and marches with two army's to Harondor North..
And this is where i am at the moment fighting a Guerilla war in the east and starting a campaign in the South All with all just great!

It is possible to repel the attacks early on. First off, reinforce with some good units (King's Spearmen) in Lonhir, and then take whatever units possible in Mordor (Militia's will do, they're OK when defending in a shieldwall). You'll want to start recruiting a KoDA early on, since the king will die soon and shortly after the Lord of Emyn Arnen will pass away (at the approximate age of 11-120 :winkAlso move good troops from Minas Ithil and Minas Tirith to Emyn Arnen, since this is where all the hard battle will take place. If you manage to between the Haradrian assaults, build a fortress between the regions of North Harondor and Emyn Arnen, by the bridge somewhere. This should stop the Haradrians from assaulting Emyn Arnen and instead they'll siege your fort. Always reinforce it when you feel to.
I've managed to get a holding alliance with Rhun, meaning I had 2 full stacked armies, each with 2-3 generals, waiting for me in Mordor. This was quite an expense of course, so either attack Rhun or move them out of there. Naval combat is very essential in CI, even more than in RTW IMHO. The first battle is the decisive. Recruit 2-4 of the best RK naval unit (for example 2 from Linhir and 2 from Pelargir) and bind them together. Whoever wins the first battle will probably achieve control over the whole sea. Once you've sank all Corsairs, bloackade all Haradrian ports. This will efficiently destroy their economy.
My RK building policy is that in most towns, I build profit bringing buildings first. Set the highest tax rate you can while still having control of the citizens (ie >70%) and the population growth >0,5%. (In small towns I tend to favour at least 1-1,5% growth rate. In large cities such as MT it doesn't really matter if your population decreases as long as it doesn't do that with a huge speed). In bordernear cities build some barracks so you can recruit Spearmen (if on a defensive). They are a great unit, can beat almost anybody. It is good to have one near border settlement with the City development ready. This means being able to recruit Settlers which'll raise the population (with Gondorian inhabitants) in small/rebelly settlement.
Playing with Harad (and Rhun) is a completely different story. I just played with Harad and in under a hour I was able to take every large Gondorian City. Only the Mordor cities (near the lake) and two cities west of Dol Amroth were left.
Palantir, I strongly suggest we lower the Haradrian beginning army, they are far too numerous!
Great stories Boosh and Daimon - I really enjoyed reading those! I especially like the story format you have, Daimon![]()

The next major battle I have I will attempt to post an AAR.
Ah, i was thinking about an AAR..I love the write about Tolkien's works i only need to refresh my memory with some titles and such and names of rivers and then i'm ready to go..I think
For some reason whenever I take a screenshot all I get is a black picture. I'm looking under the TGA's folder in the main folder for where I installed the mod. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Try turning off the anti-aliasing. Or just download Fraps (which is what I'm using).

Thank you apocalypsis! My AAR is now up!
So that's the fix, huh? I've had that problem, but when I posted some early bugs, it worked...
That's my bad ass faction leader and main general. He's the orginal faction heir *his dad lived to like 80*, he's been holding off Gondor's massive armies since the game started. I got tired of that, so I drove and took Minas Tirith. I like how you need to take Minas Iitith*sp* in order to leave Mordor, makes it a key city to defend the area. You can also see my faction in the mini map. I finished it actually, all I had to do was take Umbar, which I did. Took my southern army and creep along the very bottom of the map past all of Harad's armies. I checked without FOW, and they have like 10 full stacks near Gondor, it's insane. What's more insane they havn't been at war with Gondor forever, after about ten years they both teamed up to kill me, so I have no idea what those armies are doing.
That's my best victory, it was quite funny. I can't believe I didn't get a Man of the Hour event for that.
I shouldn't have to live in a world where all the good points are horrible ones.
Is he hurt? Everybody asks that. Nobody ever says, 'What a mess! I hope the doctor is not emotionally harmed by having to deal with it.'

Don't be jealous of my skills (hey I also beat Alexander on VH/VH in 32 turns). And don't despair, I have decided to write a FATW:CI strategy guide for the RK for my Scriptorium Writing Contest entry.
Wow, nice Prof!

While I was unable to make an AAR for this battle (fraps kept causing crashes and I didn't want to risk it on this one) This screenshot of a heroic defense will show you just how effective a good shield wall and archer line can be for Gondor. Never, EVER doubt the strength and bravery of the men of Numenor.

Eighteen-hundred kills vs. just 90? Doesn't that seem a bit... unrealistic? Two thousand boy scouts would have killed more Gondorians.
