Hi, everyone. Since my video card can't support MIITW, I have a question for you. Wich VGA card (not the most expensive) would you recommend?
well, what do you have now?
do you have PCI-E, AGP, or PCI?
I have ATI Radeon 9200 128Mb. And even on demo, battle of Otumba, it sucks. I need, at least 256 Mb video card, and I don't have that much money now to spend on this.
So, if you know any good and not expensive card, I would be happy to know about that.
That card is for both PCI and AGP-slots. Do you know which one you have? Assuming you have AGP, and can't upgrade to PCI-e, you could look for something like x800-series or 7600-series. But first, tell your other specs, they also have effect on this.

A, there is a bit of a dilema, the card I would most reccomend to for MTW2 is the most expensive one, the 7950GTX.Originally Posted by Rufats
Bit, you said you cant afford that one, so what is your budget, the 7900GTO is a great card for just over £200.
Chances are that since your old card was crap, so will the rest of your system, what is the rest of your specs? You might need to upgrade them as well.

AMD 2.1 GHz
1G RAM
and that crappy card, wich works fine with RTW, medium-high video options, huge unit size.
BTW, Photoshop CS2 and, especially, Illustrator, wich as we know requires more than PS, run very smooth on my computer. And that means, that my job requires working with big files, sometimes more than 750Mb-1G files.

Would that be an AMD 2100 or an AMD actually clocked at 2.1GHz?

This article:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/09/...for_the_money/
And it's update:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/...or_your_money/
Tells you exactly which cards are best in your price segment.
The only advise I give you is to not buy a card in the less than $100 segment, they are simply not worth it because any acceptable gaming cards cost AL LEAST $130 or so, and a good one costs more than $200.
You can also directly compare cards here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/..._october_2006/
(so you can compare all the cards your local computer shop sells).
Thanks alot. Really appreciate that![]()
This is what they have
About 100$ on these:
X1300 Pro 256MB, TV, DVI, PCI-E
7300GT 256MB TV, DVI, PCI-E
7300GS 256MB, Max 512MB, TV, DVI, PCI-E (Graphics Engine GeForce 7300GS)
9600XT 256MB, TV, DVI (RADEON™ 9600 XT)
And this is even cheaper:
X1300 512MB, PCI-E
These about 120-130$:
X1600 Pro 256MB, TV, DVI, PCI-E
X1300 Pro 256MB, DVI, VIVO, PCI-E
X1300 512MB, TV, Dual DVI, PCI-E
7600GS 256MB DDRII, TV, DVI, PCI-E
6600 512MB DDRII, TV, DVI, PCI-E (GForce 6600)
6600 256MB TV, DVI, AGP
7300GT 256MB, TV, DVI, PCI-E
7300GT Silent 256MB, TV, DVI, PCI-E (Graphics Engine GeForce 7300GT)
Which one of these would you recommend?

That excludes almost all of them.
The 9600XT is AGP, but it's very old and nowhere fast enough for tomorrows games (I know 'cos I still have a very similar card)
"6600 256MB TV, DVI, AGP" is probably the MINIMUM you want.
But you might want to spend some extra cash and buy something better.
I have to get home first...
I'm not a technician (don't know what AGP is) so, could you just give me the names (between 100-150 $)
Before we go further in helping you, you need to tell us whether your current card is a AGP slot card or a PCI-E card.Originally Posted by Rufats

According to tomshardware.com the X1600 performs very good in some games, but less good in others.
So if your buying it primarily for M2:TW you should find out how well it does with this particular game.
(maybe you did this already, Bigfootedfred?)
This one sounds very good:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/...ney/page4.htmlBest Agp Card For ~$140
Radeon X850 PRO
Codename: R530, 90 nanometer technology
12 Pixel Shaders, Six Vertex Shaders, 12 Texture Units, 12 Raster Operator Units
256 bit memory bus
520 MHz core, 540-MHz DDR (1400 MHz effective) Memory
The old X850 PRO has resurfaced in AGP circles, and delivers very, very respectable performance for the older interface. The 7600 GS and X1650 PRO cannot really compete with the raw power of the X850 PRO.
I think this is the best card you can buy with your budget.
Ok, this one?
Model Radeon X1600 Pro

Memory Speed 400 MHz x 2
Output DVI/TV/CRT/HDTV

It's around 160-180$
And this one:

512MB DDR2
AGP 4x,8x
Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c / OpenGL 2.0 acceleration
Avivo™ Technology
3D Graphics Resolution of 2560x1600 Max

The X850Pro is a nice bang for the buck at around $140, but newegg also has some OEM Geforce 6800GT, which is even better, for $160. Your pick.

Get the cheaper one then.
I'm not sure if UK sites still sell X800GTO, but here in US it's the same price as the X1600 but performs much better

Didn't find X800GTO, but thanks. I'm gonna get one of those two, as soon, as I'm home.
Work, work.
Do you live in the US? If you do check Newegg, they got the most complete selection.
Wow, just found a X850XT for $96! That's one heck of a deal. If you live in the US get this right now.
