    Default Codec Pack or Standalone Codecs?

    I'm not sure this is the right place but here it goes;

    I've been having some problems playing divx files, namely issues with high pixelization and reduced sound quality (voices are very low, soundtrack is normal) in divx/avi files.
    I'm using the K-lite codec pack + ac3 filter.
    What codec pack & standalone codec would you guys advise on using?

    Cheers

    Don't know much about these, but I'm using DivX for Windows and ffdshow . Everything has worked fine with these, haven't needed anything else. Not using them very much though..

    I'm not sure but I think divX movies can only be viewed with the official divX codec (which can be part of a larger package).
    I recommend downloading and installing the latest version from www.divx.com

    Divx movies are encoded with the divx codec but the vast majority of movies (.avi files) are encoded with AC3, Xvid, etc.
    I've found a nice codec pack which pretty much runs everything and gives me minimum/no hassle. Thanks anyway. :wink:

    Oh, I thought you meant only divx movies gave you problems, but it's all avi files?

    About the sound "(voices are very low, soundtrack is normal)".
    This could be caused by a wrong speaker calibration.

    In surround sound (assuming you have surround sound) the voices often come from the center speaker, while the ambient sounds come from the remaining satellites.
    Maybe you center speaker volume is set too low?

    ps: AC3 is a sound codec, isn't it?

    My problem was a series of "broken" codecs that were creating conflict; I've uninstalled all codecs and installed a mini codec pack + media player classic and everything runs nicely.
