Default Ukraine and Swedish Submarine Hunt: Should America Even Care?

As of late, Russia has been flexing it's considerable military might in the Crimea and Ukraine incidents. A massive submarine hunt in Swedish waters fans the flames of Russophobia, as it's being assumed by most to be a Russian incursion. The Russians support the Assad regime in Syria, while America supports a moderate rebel group. It's a bit alarmist to call this a second Cold War, but Putin is certainly stirring the pot. My question is, should America give a damn?

Our so called "allies" in Europe have been rather anti-American in the recent years. Indeed, the whole world seems to think of us as some evil empire, come to colonize the Middle East and shove hamburgers down the global collective throat. Perhaps it is time to change the way American foreign policy works. Perhaps we have no business interfering in Ukrainian-Russian relations. Perhaps the EU can handle Russia alone. Maybe ISIS should be ignored, and the Arab world left to its fate.

If the world so hates America, then maybe it should live without America for a while. Let the medical aid to Africa cease. Let NATO attempt to function without American support. Let the Middle East burn. Hell, let the United Nations find a new headquarters. Maybe it's time for America to stop caring for an ungrateful world.

The U.S. tried that before World War I and World War II. Isolationism doesn't work.

In the end the people most critical of the United States in Europe are vocal contrarians. You can thank Russia for marginalizing that group in European politics.

During the Cold War one of the most anti-American prime ministers in Swedish history held the office (Olof Palme), at the same time the entirety of the armed forces was engaged in deep cooperation with the U.S military. In Europe there's more leftist elements than in U.S politics, these are bound to be prone anti-Americanists, however when it comes down to it, people aren't as opposed to the U.S as you might think. Even these hipsters love going on trips to New York and whatnot .

Concerning the Cold War - it ain't a Cold War 2, it's just that the Cold War never ended in earnest. Anyway, I think there's an awakening coming - with U.S economy being in trouble Europe is gonna have to start pulling its own security political weight. Also please refrain from profilerating the term "Russophobia", it has nothing to do with what's going on in Northern Europe. Rather, denial has led to European politicians having a LotR-esque attitude towards it authoritarian eastern neighbour, the reactions that are now coming are too little, too late.
