How to change battle difficulty mid campaign if you're on legendary (so not ingame options)

can anyone tell me where in the ESF I can change the battle difficulty level? in game options dont let you change it if you started the campaign on legendary.
I might have found it in Campaign_setup_options, but I imagine there might also be a true/false for battle realism. Happy to keep that, but I need to get past the in-game inhibitors

Reason for the change is because I FINALLY lost a battle. I'm not gloating, but although I have certainly been challenged on Legendary, I'm still winning all my battles when outnumbered 2:1. Just gone to war with a strong Macedon, and CANNOT GET PAST THEIR BLOODY PIKES! Will have to drop down to hard battle difficulty or something.

Hard should be just right, very hard and legendary is the same for battle bonuses for AI.

Nope, it is possible! I found it today by some educated guesswork.

Go to Campaign Setup Options in the ESF. Down the bottom, after the 20 and 20 (for the default army sizes), there is a True/False. Change it to False to allow you to change the battle difficulty on Legendary.

Or just keep playing on Leg/VH and avoid Phalanxes in close quarters, villages, cities. It can be quite a challenge. But to me it meant that I would have to start besieging cities, and pull through the entire sieges (playing on VH, this gives the same boni to the AI in battle as in legendary).

^ lol "boni". nice pluralisation. I have no qualms about finding it hard to beat an army that is equal in size and strength to mine, but I should be able to do it. I now play on Leg (camp)/ Hard (battles). I havent noticed any real difference to the battles (i.e. late carthaginian infantry are still beefy), but I'll have to try to outnumber the macedonians. They're sitting around their towns with 3-4 stacks reinforcing each other.

I might have a solution, just replace bonuses from some other campaign difficulty with bonuses from Legendary and voila, Legendary campaign and normal/hard battles depending which one will be replaced
