Default Shooting in Canadian Parliament - multiple shooters/shootings

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle21217602/

So this thing is on-going and apparently involving up to 3 shooters.

One soldier has been shot guarding the War Memorial, and there are reports of somebody (maybe a perpetrator) being shot down outside the parliament library.

With the risk of becoming a sensationalist, might there be a connection to the killing of a canadian soldier and the injury of another earlier this week?

    Situation developing as we speak.

Been hell of a dramatic week generally so far.

    Update:
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/parl...rial-1.2808710

So it now seems to be confirmed that the guy neutralized inside the parliament building was a gunman. Also, the soldier has passed away from his injuries.

I'd hold off on eye witness racial judgments for now.

Picking Islamic terrorism as the culprit in this sort of thing is just playing the odds, but there are other possibilities.

I like how this thread isn't yet a page long and TWC appears to have intelligence and security analysts commenting on this.

Phier is correct, it is too early to exactly tell who is behind this. The hipster in me wants it to be a white middle class paraplegic atheist lesbian, Islamic terrorism is too mainstream.

Multiple shooters suggest it was a terrorist cell running on some ideological or religious motive as opposed to some random nut job. While Islamic terrorism isn't confirmed at this stage, its currently the safe bet, especially given the recent involvement of Canada in Iraq.

Either way, looks like the Canadians need to ramp up their security, both physically and in terms of internal intelligence. Sounds like the gunmen practically walked in.

Is it confirmed that the soldier shot at the war memorial is dead? Information seems sparse/conflicting depending on new source. What news pages are considered reliable/of high quality in Canada?

Globe and Mail is usually my go-to Canadian newspaper.

    So, was it the Russians?

Lets hope we wont have more victims. I remember last time with Breyvic news claimed that 12 people were killed and suddenly the toll jumbed to 70

Countless mass shootings have occured in US for various reasons. If a Muslim does this then the issue is transformed to "Islam is responsible"

The motivation of the shooter actually does turn it into a different issue, including on practical terms. The ideological and religious ones working in groups have potential to do much more damage, tend to go after different types of targets with different modes of operation, and can often be spotted ahead of time assuming your country's domestic intelligence service is up to scratch and focusing enough resources on counter-terrorism.

I can tell you as an Israeli that it can make for a huge difference if you're prepared ahead of time. For every terror attack we endure, our domestic intelligence stops a hundred (and I wish I was exaggerating, our security situation is awful with a couple of hundred attempts per given year). Its all about knowing your enemy, whether he'sj extremist nationalist, religious, mentally ill or even the odd eco-terrorist. You deal with them all the same way once you find them, but its finding them that's the hard part.

Its as stupid as claiming that because a Korean killed 30 students during the Virginia tech massacre, that proves that Koreans tend to be serial killers

There is some footage of this incident at the beginning of a sweep and i must say, the police officers looked completely unprepared for this crap. The way they moved... Specially one particular female cop i saw in the video. I wouldn't trust them to keep my street safe (small suburbia quiet place with nothing going on), much less an important spot. This seems a group action, and that means some sort of agenda, as opposite to a random nut.

    Condolences to the soldier's family.

I'm sure that fits the narrative used to construct your world view, but some of us rely on this archaic concept known as evidence before reaching such conclusions.

Yep. The good news is I won a bet large enough to go to a really nice dinner.

Love the deflectors and apologists. Keep it coming, for the sake of comedy.
