As usual he has been spending the majority of his day pouring over texts, laws, and treatises. The commanders got all the glory, the administrators mostly forgotten.

Decius clasped his hands behind his back

"My voice has been absent but my ears have not been deaf. In times of war we must be prepared to deal with the posturing of those who would create glory for themselves on the fields of battle."

Aquila raised an eyebrow.

"How would we deal with them, exactly?"

A message arrives from Praetor Julius Libo, intended for the Pater Familias.

Ave Senator,

I would like to call you for a meeting to discuss a matter of importance to the republic. I have a concern that certain group in the senate would harm the delicate balance that holds the republic. I have suspicions but no proof to expose them in public, however, I am sure you would have been alerted to this by the nomination and support for the wayward and useless Maximus for the position of Pontifex Maximus.

I send this message to you because I deem you to be a man of honor, and understands the delicate balance that needs to be in the republic. If you are willing to meet and discuss this with some like minded people, send your reply and I shall arrange a place where we can meet. Lastly, I urge you to send the message specifically to be delivered to me, so Maximus cannot get his hands on it.
