Pakistani teen, Indian activist win Nobel Peace Prize




i believe it was long overdue for Malala to win the award (not to detract from Kailash's impressive achievements) and she will be the youngest ever to do so. it's interesting that this is occurring simultaneously to the border skirmishes India and Pakistan are currently having (again), with dozens already dead. it was a particularly shrewd decision to share this year's prize with both of these people given the circumstances, hopefully it'll have some effect or at the very least it'll be another slice of irony.

These things tend to be rather political statements.

Malala is too young to receive this award, and her actual accomplishments don't deserve it, but she represents a resistance to Islamic fundamentalism in the Anne Frank sense. Probably the primary reason Satyarthi was picked to balance the ticket.

There's not really much risk involved.

It seems that the committee, at least inasmuch as the Peace Prize is concerned, have decided to start awarding people more for potential, rather than concrete achievements.

Snowden should have won it. Its because of Americans like him that the Emancipation Proclamation came about.

If you read about Arnold, he loved his country. It was the American elite that turned their back on him and forced his hand. So yes, Snowden was like a Benedict Arnold - i mean the historical one, not the one taught in Texas textbooks.
