Ive been playing EB2 for awhile now as the Romani and noticed that more than half my generals are Imperium Relinquished. How do I get the "Imperium" trait so my general can command well in the battlefield against the numerous super generals

Characters will automatically get Imperium when they get promoted to the corresponding offices. They should have Imperium as Praetor and Consul (as well as Pro-Praetor and Pro-Consul after their mandate ends). In order for a character to be able to reach a higher office, he has to be in Rome by Winter when he has the "eligible for..." trait.
The roman system probably requires you to rotate your commanders from time to time.

Imperium lasts for four years, so that helps a little. Also It's not too big of a deal even if you don't have imperium(unless you auto calc battles or are just roleplaying).
I have found Imperium to last for 12 seasons. Consul or Praetor lasts for 4 seasons. But Proconsul or Propraeter usually lasts for another 8 seasons after that.
Yes, I have counted it. I have noticed because I have been trying to conquer Iberia and I always have 2 fleets going one way or the other with new troops, new Imperium FM's or Imperium relinquished. With the way the movement points are set up I have found that it takes between 3 to 5 seasons to make it across the sea to Iberia depending on each FM. Usually my FM turns into a proconsul or propraeter in the sea or just after landing in Iberia. I then have approximately 8 seasons (usually between 7 and 9) of campaigning with Imperium before I have to rotate commanders. I have always been able to keep up with the rotation and movement points although sometimes just barely. I've never had to fight a battle in Iberia without Imperium yet...
This way each FM spends essentially 4 seasons travelling with Imperium, 8 seasons campaigning with Imperium, 4 seasons travelling without Imperium and hopefully making it back to Roma by the end of the 4th year. If not he spends 2 to 3 seasons(depending on travel time) waiting in Roma for the new year and new Imperium trait to repeat and do it all over again.
Edit: Essentially there is an endless cycle for my FM's of this age group. The cylce is every 4 or 5 years depending on the travel time involved. It's either 3 years with Imperium, and 1 year without or 3 with and 2 without.

ridiculous travelling time was partly the reason why i stopped my Romani campaign halfway... gets worse as the empire grows... planning boat schedules really is a pain... not to mention facing the risk of losing FM in storms and rebel fleets... it might be a realistic depiction of roman politics but takes up lots of time both for the character and mine just arranging for transport
I rechecked on a new campaign. Became praetor on turn 5, propraetor on turn 9 and lost imperium on turn 21. So a total of 16 turns or 4 years.
Oh shoot. I must have lost track of an entire year...I guess the mod is too immersive... What a problem to have.
Thanks for checking. I played again last night for a couple hours and forgot to count. I was having too much fun.
