How do you turn off permanent arrows?

Or at least make them disappear faster. I noticed that they do eventually disappear, but still seem to stick on the ground for a very long time, long enough for thousands of the bastards (I'm playing as the very archer-heavy Saba) to accumulate on the ground and give my toaster of a computer terrible performance issues. They even caused my game to crash once.

Is there any way to get them to stick to the ground for just a few seconds before disappearing?
