    Default Power Bars

    No not the energy bars.

Do you guys use a quality power bar? My old one was just a cheapo from radioshack and I think a power surge at my house during a storm may have been the cause of my PSU frieing on me. I'm thinking maybe I should pick up a decent one this time, though not like the 100$ one my home theater is hooked into. How important are they?

Maybe this is trivial, maybe not, but its a break from pc upgrades atleast

I've got a quality one, in fact it comes with it's own insurance for everything it's connected to.

I forget the brand name (Im not at home right now), but I bought it from EB, during a major sale they were having (a "you can buy things for $50 each (Australian) as long you buy more than one" sale). It was initially marked as $279 and I had been looking at it for a few times (waiting for a sale actually...I knew I needed to protect my electrical equipment as thunder storms are frequent during summer and I have a lot of electrical equipment), and I got it for $50.
...the brand name still eludes me but there are different versions out there...this was the 'platinum one' which means it was the best....it also helps protect phones lines, network lines, and coaxial lines.

get a good one, they are not that expensive. $30 for a mid range surge protector is a small price to pay to keep your expensive computer (or even expensive PSU for that matter) safe from power spikes. I would also recomend getting one that protects your cable or DSL line aswell (most will protect the phone line, I had to look around to get one that did coax lines, but was still only $25) As last year lighting struk the cable box outside my house, which fried my modem, routers WAN port, and a NIC in one of my machines. Power lines are not the only places surges come from.
